Welcome Howard! Another long time TV DXer here who's switched to FM/OIRT in more recent years due to analogue switch overs.

I see the one Sony 920 in the pic is displaying 72.45MHz freq, have you modded to cover OIRT it or is it a version made for the eastern European market?

Thank you,
It’s a UK tuner. So I modded the 920. Remove 2 links, add 2 x diodes to pull up the processor pins and the tuner jumps to OiRT 74.00 below 87.50.
The front end won’t go below 68.5MHz, so still some mods to do there with the varicaps.

Cool I didn't know you could do that on a 920. When you have sussed out the final varicap mods to cover the whole band right down to 65.8 I think this might be a popular mod amongst DXers. I for one would certainly be interested in knowing the details if you are happy to share them.

Thank you John!
Chris, when I have finished this investigation I will post what needs to be done. It would seem that any Sony tuner that has the dual input front end, and the Sony 780205 central processor on the display PCB should modify to add OIRT.
It looks like SE700 and SB920 will do this.

Chris, I have started to post about modifying Sony FM tuners for OIRT. Started with ST-SE700, next ST-SB920, in the receivers folder. Varicap mods can wait, as the receive will work without front end mods and removing this assembly is a really delicate operation requiring desoldering equipment.
Best wishes, H

Thanks Howard, I'll certainly have a go at my 920 once the details are available for that model and I have a bit of spare time.

Hi Chris,
I have now posted in the receivers section details about the modification to the ST-SB920 (and SA3ES, SA5ES).
My 920 was jumping with OIRT signals yesterday!

Thanks Howard, I've ordered some diodes so will give it a bash. My main OIRT receiver is a modified Icom IC-R7100 which works very well but its always handy to have a second receiver and it will be interesting to see how they compare. If you find any further mods to get it to cover that last bottom bit of OIRT down to 65.8MHz do let me know.

Cheers,
Chris.
