Recently, I forget where people were discussing the possibilities for TA TV-DX on band 1 now that the US has closed down and the subject of Canadian signals arose as there was talk that they still were some privately owned analogue stations on the lower VHF channels. I recently asked my friend who is an satellite OB engineer for CTV Montreal if he could confirm what if anything is still left of analogue TV in Canada, here is his reply;

"Unfortunately, almost all Canadian broadcast operations have switched over to digital. As of January 2013, there were 15 remaining transmitters occupying channels 52 to 69, all low power analogue in small, outlying communities. Therefore, I sadly doubt you will be able to catch any of those elusive Canadian signals any longer."

So it looks like we have to look towards the Caribbean or South America for any TA signals now.

With reference to my post above, it looks like this info was inaccurate... I was just browsing on Hugh Cocks Youtube channel and it appears he had a Canadian signal on A2 as recently as 29/7/16 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xcpl4T74BWQ so please ignore my friend's info! If this TX is still up and running there may still be a possibility of Canadian multi hop Es in 2017.

I also notice that Hugh has received an E4 relay of (Chinese news station) CCTV based somewhere in west Africa last summer. Obviously as he is in Portugal he has quite an advantage on us DXers based further north but it is perfectly possible that it could come in on multi-hop Es if we are lucky!
