Same CF3F + announcement on 92.0 here
Does that mean that Llanddona is to have 2 R Wales? :geek:

I have been listening to R Wales since Janice Long got her evening show. In the car 94.8 and 95.3 are about equal

don't make me spell the Llanrheadr -Ym-Mochnant tx (92.0) in my post Julian!
--------------
fyi: Llangollen 91.1 flipped over to radio wales at around 5 when Radio Wales px started

was a nice fluke to have a tropo overnight for switchover, i now have IQ files of the radio 3 part of the band showing multiple txs switching from Radio 3 to world service

Ireland was very enhanced last night too. i couldn't tell whether i was getting truskmore and hollywell hill or crosshaven & spur hill but it makes for some interesting IQ files for future historians

as the final chapter in this story,
Radio Wales are plugging their new tx network on air "now even easier to listen, visit our website for details"
they're asking for people listening on the new fm txs to email the show, I think someone like Nicky Gilly or Mike Fallon should email them :D

ps: where were you listening Julian?

so now Cheshire has a stonking radio Wales on 91.1 i might use it if Adam Walton is still on sunday nights

Because of the switchover and the tropo enhancement today I can now here 6 transmitters of BBC Radio Wales

95.1 Carmel - blotting out a Birmingham Pirate. Not heard this one for a while - Original Tx
95.3 Blaenplwyf - A regular here on tropo scatter - Original Tx
91.3 Llandrindond Wells - New Tx
91.1 Llangollen Seems noisy today I think its due to interference from other stations due to tropo - New Tx
91.9 Mynydd Pencarreg A first time received here - New Tx
103.9 Good old Wenvoe - Original Tx - There is a rumour that they have increased power from 40KW

They are welcoming new listeners and asking you to text them if you are a new listener.

Nice,
The band is a lot more dxable now in my opinion, this change breaks up a lot those single frequency networks which made it impossible to id tx sites

Trying for 91.9 now

No luck with Mynydd Pencarreg here.

2 regulars I haven't seen: Llandecwyn & Llanfyllin
I see Llanfyllin has had its power reduced from 14 to 8 watts.
yesterday even 95.7 was very weak, it's a shame as it used to be the little tx that could :-)

I can now hear Radio Wales on 91.5 over Holme Moss it must be Haverfordwest another first. Home Moss is weak here as its blocked by a hill to the North of me. I would not of known I was hearing Haverfordwest before the change. 91.9 Mynydd Pencarreg has faded out and I can now here a weak Radio 3 on the frequency probably Tacholnston.

Haverford west already have a radio Wales tx on 95.9

Unless someone screwed up you must be picking up
Rhymney 20 watts!! From Gwent congratulations Chris!

All this time this little relay was getting out all over the place but we couldn't tell!

Can you check 104.9 & 95.9 ?

I think your location is going to be awesome for Wales

Do you keep a logbook on fmlist?

Yes you are right Tim, I did not listen close enough with all the noise. Just tried a moment ago and listened through the interference and its Welsh. So it must be Haverfordwest but Radio Cymru 93.7. Unfortunately 104.9 is blocked by Radio Leicester and I struggle with 95.9 because of Radio Shropshire 96.0.

Yes its a good Location for Mid and South Wales, Devon and Cornwall. Its shielded by hills to the North and the East. There is an fM transmitter on the hill behind me that relays Touch FM from Lichfield 101.6 but with classic FM Wenvoe 101.7 being so strong under tropo conditions it confuses the relay's receiver and knocks Touch FM off the air in Burton on Trent.

I dont keep a logbook, maybe I should start as I have logs from Lands End and the Isles of Scilly that are interesting.

i'm really confused now Chris, if 91.5 is radio wales it m ust be Rhymney and if 93.7 is in at the same time thats likely the same tx

Haverford freqs not co channel with Rhymney : 102.5, 95.9

Its all gone this morning, but I must of been confused Tim with all the excitement. I will have to await for the next good Tropo to try and confirm what I received. I realise now that Radio Wales Havefordwest is 95.9 one of the original TX,s so it could not of been Haverfordwest I heard. It could only be low power Rhumney. Hard to believe. I wont log anything as I am not sure.

I missed this thread and thought I was getting something exotic when I heard pop mx on a Radio 3 frequency.

Just to confirm that here 90.8 Langeinor, 91.2 Abertillery, 91.4 (could be one of 3) and 91.5 (Rhymney ? Haverfordwest ?) and 91.8 Ferndale are all Radio Wales.
Not using a directional antenna, so can't confirm exact sites.

if anyone from Digital Spy is checking back on this thread

i have some corrections to the list posted on DS

91.3 Llanfyllin*
91.3 Llandrindod Wells
91.6 Llandecwyn
91.6 Machynlleth
these 4 are definitely not carrying the switchover message
Interesting! Are you sure Llanfyllin was not carrying the switchover message? It’s meant to be a relay of Llangollen via Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant. You can see the receive antennas pointing at Llanrhaeadr on its mb21 page.

I could hear Radio 3 again on 91.1 at home in Worcester this morning. That must have been Les Platons as Rennes Saint Pern was booming in on 93.5 and 89.9 at the same time.

I can only hear Llandrindod faintly on 91.3 and it would be interesting to know what its PI code is. I’m assuming it must have switched its feed from Wenvoe to Carmel (it is a Carmel TV relay) due to its Radio 4 transmission being on 103.8 and Wenvoe Radio Wales on 103.9, and therefore would be carrying the south west version of Radio Wales rather than south east.

good point, no i'm no longer sure about llanfyllin, i can't hear 95.7 anymore! it used to be on demand here like Llandinam
i guess i have a new dx freq but i will kind of miss it

95.7 used to reach the East Midlands under flat condx btw!

edit: weak brf peak on 95.7 at 1556ut //104.3 ,
wow so the difference between 14 watts and 8 watts is very dramatic it would seem, unless the aerials have been changed too

ok, what can i try for on 95.7 now? ;-)

yes you can completely disregard my note about Llanfyllin 91.3 in that case

the change must have happened between 7th april and 17th october according to my logs- sorry i can't be more precise

also Machynlleth much weaker than before and Llandecwyn gone completely, BBC saving money by reducing powers?

last year i lost another previous pest: BBC C&W 94.8 but i can now get Les Platons

Thanks!

I had a feeling I'd read somewhere about one of these North Powys transmitters being fed in a bizarre way for some services (some RBL Llangollen and others RBL eslewhere) but I think if that's true it would have been on Radio 4 or Radio Cymru due to them being shoehorned into the local radio band. I think I might be getting mixed up with Llandyfriog/Mynydd Pencarreg!

I'm going to try and see whether Llandrindod is carrying Swansea or Cardiff commentary this afternoon.
