Stand by for the Quadrantids!

Post by John Faulkner, Skegness » 02 Jan 2015 23:48

The Quadrantids (also known as Bootids) are active from late December until the second week of January and peak around the 2nd to the 4th January.

After reading several articles on various meteor societies' websites it is generally suggested to 'look' for Quadrantids between midnight and dawn on January 3rd and on January 4th, with the peak expected around 0100 on the 4th.

Quadrantids are not noted for producing long meteor trails but have the potential to create a few fireballs. It is estimated that there will be between 25 and 120 visible meteors at the peak, depending on which site you look at.

Good DX!
