ElAD FDM S1

Post by PascalD » 10 Aug 2019 19:15

Hello,

In a local Cash Express boutique there is a elad fdm s1 for sale 80 euros and is this a good sdr for buying? I have a airspy mini and ask if the fdm s1 is a better SDR for fm dx? I search for elad fdm s2 but the price is expensive for a novice fm dxer who dx's only occasionaly.

Good DX

read this
http://ecom.eladit.com/FDM-S1/en
http://sdr.eladit.com/FDM-S1%20Sampler/ ... 201.04.pdf

"FDM-S1 is a receiver with 61.44MHz ADC, can be used from 20KHz to 30MHz. In Sampler Mode frequency coverage rises up to 200MHz.
As say before, the device can be used as sampler for downsampling use taking advantage of the 200MHz front-end.
With the FDM-SW2 software it is possible to demodulate CW, LSB, USB, DSB, AM, SAM, DRM, FM e WFM signals"

so Band 2 is an afterthought and not properly supported

The FDM-S2 uses undersampling for Band II.

It uses undersampling for FM Band 2, just like the Elad FDM-S2 you have. The S2 is better in that the sampling rate is higher, so just one range of undersampling is used.

Voila fellow dxers i send two photos showing now the simple fm dx setup i have once connected to a good fm antenne.
In the photo shows elad fdm s1 + PDC fm converter also airspy mini + R820T2 dongle and sony f1hd.
Which can perform best for fm dx when connected to a good antenne? The sony is good for receive 150km scatter French stations but the elad is i finding a excellent alternative especially when reducing it's b/w for weaker stations sandwiched between high power ones. I wait for a 5 element antenne arrive and maybe the 150km stations receive accasionaly will be more regular? One last question, is the elad software i am using okay or is another software available for increasing sdr performance?

Good Dx
