108 continuous stereo carrier @ approx 290 degrees

Post by Tim Bucknall » 02 Sep 2018 18:36

there seems to be an abandoned pirate tx on 108.000364 , possibly somewhere in merseyside
maybe it's wired into the electric in some council building and can't be accessed to turn it off

I've heard of TXs getting walled up , like the famous radio galaxy 88.7 tx in Chelmsford, will that still be going 26 years later do you think? :D

wherever it is its causing no issues for the CAT in Crewe

it blocks MAR for me, i can see the weak modulation pattern of MAR but can't hear it

Andy, do you hear anything when MAR is off?

Yes Tim it's a boom boom pirate from presumably Manchester peaks East here but only on rarely recently MAR is on 108.0 at the moment.

Thanks Andy ,I seem to have two carriers 40 Hz apart on 108 which is why my attempt at direction finding was so spectacularly wrong

Do mar have more than one tx on 108?

I saw one at 107.998 yesterday but I wonder if they have another

ps: am measuring the stereo carrier(s) at 107.981.xxx to be sure i'm measuring a real tx not a local birdie etc

theres another one to the north extremely weak exactly on 107.981

edit, now i've adjusted the resolution of the spectrum display theres 5 stereo blank carriers on 108! 2 strong, 3 very weak

current crappy weather surely excludes irish church txs

MAR 108.0 has only one TX on 108.0 Tim.
