London Pirate 'The Rock'

Post by KnobTwiddler » 02 Jul 2018 11:51

Here is a chance for dx'ers to try and log the London pirate The Rock. The station has put a second transmitter on the air on 87.5, so it is now in parallel with their normal transmitter on 92.6.
87.5 is much stronger with me and it also has more deviation, here is a link to their stream >> https://tunein.com/radio/The-Rock-926-s180918/
AirSpy HF+ SDR + Full-wave Loop for FM + Home-brew Mini Whip for LW/MW/HF or 9:1 Balun + Whip Aerial

Yaesu FT-897D - Icom IC-2200H - Anytone AT-588 for 70Mhz

I watched your YouTube video last year of the reception of UK RAW, I didn't know that they ran 1.2k, I guess that must be the most power ever used by a UK FM pirate.

I don't think that The Rock will be around for long on 87.5 as OFCOM tend to keep that part of the band clear. The Wimbledon Radio Channel (Formerly known as Radio Wimbledon) has popped up on 87.7 so that is another dx catch to look out for.

Regards KT.

Thanks for the info another to look out for I have received some RSLs like Adur fm from Shoreham on sea 337 km using a single element dipole surprising how far 25 w can go.

Well that didn't last long, The Rock is off the air on both 87.5 and 92.6... May be OFCOM are sending them a message not to be too greedy. :D

That is excellent reception, I'm jealous  that you can get that kind of reception at that distance with just a dipole.
I think it was you Andrew who also received the Brands FM RSL on 87.7. I get a very good signal from that RSL every Saturday here in N London, so it looks like they are using more power than they really need to cover the Brands Hatch Circuit.

Another RSL I have had quite a few times is Cheltenham racecourse 181 km of course being on 87.7 makes it easier to receive I wouldn't stand a chance anywhere else in the band.
I do complain when they are on here
