North Midlands barrel scrapings 2nd- 4th Feb 2018

Post by Tim Bucknall » 04 Feb 2018 15:01

87.5 MAR, Merseyside, Sunday usual PX
87.6 UCB, Wicklow, Friday slightly LF of nominal qrg. Caught micro lift to Ireland before wx turned
87.7 skyline radio, mor/oldies MX Gary glitter(!!) Etc
Sign on Friday 1115 caught by accident. seemingly stayed on all day. Somewhere in north west England weak enough for meteor pings to override at home qth but was probably beaming wrong direction.
Strong at local north facing high spot Congleton edge no RDS, audibly lossy audio yuk!

95.1 Kriss FM, west Midlands, heard Sunday at retail park in stoke. DJ adding live dub effects to records in real time.

100.8 weak reggae pirate heard at Congleton edge friday afternoon, presume Manchester, low modulation.

Looked for formerly regular Stoke pirates on Sunday but probably wasn't close enough to Meir, soft MX was heard at one point on 97.5 but this could have been nova.

No trace of usual west Midlands 94.2, 92.0

Line between illegally high powered iTrip and true pirate broadcaster is getting a bit blurred round here.
An internet or DAB station will frequently pop up on 87.5 covering a wide area sometimes its something as dull as smooth radio

One of those devices (I presume) has been plaguing 87.7 mhz in my area of Cardiff for years. For the past 6 months it has been "relaying" something called Dragon Radio, before that it has been several DAB or Internet only stations. The strange thing is that it seems to be single station for these long periods as if it is a deliberate relay rather than somebody just using it to play a station in another room.

It must be quite strong as I have picked it up over 5 miles away on occasion.

Thanks guys, dragon rings a bell but I can't remember why.

Pop on 87.7 now , abba the day before you came. Then some c*ck rock song I don't recognise.
Now playing big country, songs are crossfaded

Love NRG weak at home 100.81 now but signal peaks at home are better than on the hilltop!

Hmm second station revealed on 87.7 when I go horizontal, this one has presenters with northern accents and is probably skyline.

The Caroline Relay Service
A radio transmission which calls itself The Caroline Relay Service has been transmitting every Sunday on wot.5 mhz
Clearly this is a pirate and has nothing to do with Radio Caroline . I'd be intrigued to know if anybody else has heard this.

Thanks David, I'll watch 106.5
It will struggle to get over signal 107 + the bee

I've been trying to find out if the Caroline relay on 97.5/90.2/93.9/94.0 in meir , Stoke is still on but haven't been able to get out this year, Dad is too sick to leave.

If anyone happens to be down that way can they do the business?
