Swedish DAB!

Post by Alex Lawler » 30 Jan 2017 19:21

After reading a few articles can anybody explain the situation to me . From my understanding there will be no further expansion of DAB,no closure of FM and no experiments with DAB +. Will the DAB that has already been rolled out continue to co exist with FM or will that be taken off air in a retrograde step leaving absolutely no digital radio transmissions in Sweden? The situation seems strange as France has now adopted DAB + over DMB and Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Norway are all fully established DAB radio countries.

Actually looking at Wohnort it's only 12B and 12C that are actually active digital frequencies in Sweden. The regional ensembles have already ceased.

Hello!

Information from Worlddab.org.

The Swedish DAB network (mux 1) is operated by Teracom AB and covers major cities Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmo, Enkoping and Alvsbyn on a single frequency 12B. Coverage is currently at about 41.8% of the population or about 3 million people.

Mux 1 holds 8-10 regular and licensed services, all from Swedish Radio. All services in mux 1 are currently broadcast in DAB. All audio services hold DLS.

The Swedish DAB+ network (mux 2) is operated by Teracom AB under a specific test license and covers major cities Stockholm, Uppsala and Gavle using a multi-frequency network on frequencies 12A and 13C and 13F. Coverage reaches 22% of the population or about 2 million people. Mux 2 currently holds about 14-16 pilot services from several major broadcasters (SR, MTG radio and SBS radio), as well as some local community radios. All services in mux 2 are broadcasted in DAB+. All audio services hold DLS and SLS.

A small multiplex called Bauer Media is located in Stokholm area and broadcasting at 12D.

Other multiplex technical data can be found here: http://www.wohnort.org/dab/sweden.html#Riks

NENT Nordic Entertainment Group will start broadcasting via DAB+ digital radio in Sweden on Jan 1, 2019. Smaller broadcasters DB Media and Skärgårdsradion will also join the digital network.

In total, 15 digital stations will broadcast on DAB+ from January. According to Swedish Press, Radio and Television Authority’s license conditions, which run from 2014 to Sept. 20, 2022, the new digital network must reach 35 percent of the population by April 2019, 50 percent by 2020 and 70 percent the following year.

NENT has 11 national DAB+ licenses, while DB Media has one national and one regional license. Skärgårdsradion will broadcast DAB+ in Stockholm and on Gotland island.

The NENT multilex is still not on air. The remote monitor http://www.digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?m ... 74&lang=fr is currently reporting two active multiplexers 12A and 12C in Stokholm. Acording to http://www.wohnort.org/dab/sweden.html#Riks, Block 12D will be used by NENT (Nordic Entertainment Group). Looks like they have a frequency coordination process right now.

UPDATE: The situation is that Swedish Radio Programs P2, P3 P4 Stokholm have stopped broadcasting in DAB+ mux 2 which cover Stokholm 12A area, Upssala 13C area and Gavle area on 13F. The Swedish Radio SR channels (but not P2 P3, P4 Stokholm) are available on their mux 1 which is broadcasting in 12B in Enkoping, Alsvbyn, Upssala, Malmo, Goteborg and Stokholm 12C. Please see the channels list here via DAB remote monitor in Stokholm, Sweden. http://www.digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?m ... 74&lang=fr

In Sweden, the website Radionytt reports that the launch of the forthcoming NENT ensemble has been postponed until no later than June 30th. I hope that NENT will release the condiments with relish soon. Want to feel their taste via tropo in atumn.

It depends of DAB development in other European countries and especially in the Sweden's neighbouring country - Norway.

On the Swedish national ensemble SR DAB, all services have switched to DAB+, apart from the SR P4/SR P7 Sisuradio timeshare. SR P2 replaces SR P2 Klassiskt and SR P2 Världen. SR P3 Din Gata replaces SR P3 Star. SR P4 Stockholm is a new addition. Daytime and overnight snapshots updated.

About NENT (Nordic Entertainment Group) The media authority gave them an informal extention to August 1, because they’re waiting for some new equipment. But NENT expects to start before that. Teracom test DAB+ network in Stockholm, Uppsala and Gävle will be the first to be used. Gothenburg and Malmö added before the end of October. NENT will launch four new stations, in addition to the company’s FM networks Rix and Star, Stockholm stations Bandit Rock and Power Hit Radio plus online stations Lugna Favoriter and Svenska Favoriter

FM fans must be sabotaging deliveries 😀

That`s weird. Public service operator Sveriges Radio has just shut down three of its additional digital only channels (DAB/web) and there are thoughts inside of SR to stop digital radio completely until the end of the year.

On the other hand, commercial NENT (MTG) is interested in DAB within a country that has no big share of digital stations when taking a closer look to the number of audience and device sales (even Denmark and Germany do better these days).

I have not seen any information about the channels in use by NENT and BM in Malmö so far, but I expect it will be 11 B + 9 A and / or 8 B. I wonder why the channels have not been communicated yet.

I guess the stations will be:

106,7 RIX FM Stockholm
STAR FM Stockholm 107,1
BANDIT ROCK 101,9 Stockholm
PWR HIT RADIO 107,5 Stockholm
LUGNA FAVORITER (ex. 104.7 FM)
Svenska Favoriter (ex. 101.9 FM)
RIX FM Fresh (online only)
Dandsbandsfavoriter (online only)
BANDIT Classics (online only)
INDIE101 (online only)
90,2 skärgårdsradion (Stockholm DAB only)
GULDKANALEN Malmö-Lund (Malmö DAB only)

btw: On FM, I am able to receive Danmark (24-7) and Sweden (almost 95% of the year) from Germany. On DAB, I cannot hear any of them until it is very good tropo (DK-DAB ch. 11+12). Swedish DAB is impossible thanks to German authorities using the same network (12 B).

I have logged Swedish FM radio here up to 900 km during tropo and can catch 1 kW locals from 400 or 500 km easily, but never had the slightest signal on VHF-III from Malmö, not even during the temporary pause when NDR Germany was off air during maintainance.

If DK + SE do the switch one day and change to digital radio, that's it - both countries will be gone for good in Germany.

Well... They must do more advertising about DAB and then people will start to interest more in DAB. Many people are still not informed.

Sveriges Radio has their own multiplex in Malmo. SR’s multiplex in Malmö (on 12B) has changed channel lineup. P2 Klassiskt, P2 Världen and P3 Star are gone as planned. They’re replaced by P2, P3 Din Gata and P4 Stockholm. I expect the same changes have been made in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Luleå. The channels list are the same on SR multiplex network, wherever it is located: Stokholm, Upssala, Enkoping, Alvsbyn etc. http://www.digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?l ... fr&mux=12C

If you think that SR will shut down their DAB multiplexers. It's kinda ironic if Sveriges Radio will end the DAB broadcasting in the end of this year, in other countries the private radio is the one blocking. I will be surprised if they do so because now it is surprising that they are changing the supply and technical standard now.

I have cought SR multiplexers and Terecom Test multiplexers from Stokholm, Upssala and Gavle with Telescopic antenna indoors via tropo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNE3qDU ... 8-gzi_hzuK

Info war about DAB continues. Careful! Swedish propaganda materials and sources are still being repurposed.

According to
http://radionytt.se/nyheter/har-ar-kana ... s-dab-nat/

the new additional DAB channels will be

BANDIT Classics (now re-branded as BANDIT Classic Rock)
POWER HIT RADIO Millennium (early 90s until mid-2000s chart hits)
Gamla Favoriter (Abba, Abba, and more Abba)
Radio RAINBOW (gay music+ each and every song with the word "LOVE" in its title)

Disappointing choice. BANDIT Classic Rock is the same as RockKlassiker (Bauer), Gamla Favoriter is the same as Retro FM / Guld, Rainbow is the same as Megapol / NRJ and Power Millennium is the same as Star FM...

ILikeRadio has so much interesting channels, however, Nordic Entertainment Group has succeeded in picking up the most boring ones...

Nordic Entertainment Group has their own channels on their multiplex. Thats why NRJ, Mix Megapol and Rockklassiker left their network. Bauer Media will start broadcasting with their own multiplex next year. https://www.teracom.se/om-teracom/nyheter/dab-nent/

NENT is broadcasting their own channels right now!!! http://www.digitalbitrate.com/dtv.php?l ... fr&mux=12A All these channels belong to NENT.

Bauer Media has their own channels http://bauermedia.se/ They left this multiplex (before it was called a Teracom Test) and Bauer Media will start broadcasting from their own new multiplex next year. I hope you get it now...

Sorry for misunderstanding.

By the actual wording "CHANNEL" I did not mean the PROGRAMMEs being broadcast but the future DAB TRANSMISSION CHANNEL FREQ. RANGE those will be on.

Or let us call them FREQUENCIES, MPX LOCATION, MHZ RANGE, BAND LOCATION or CH.BLOCK instead of CHANNEL. 12a and 12c is only in Sthlm.

Which ones (broadcasting frequency) will be used in Malmö?? Not these two for sure as Malmö is on 12b.
No news on that so far. That was what I was trying to say ;)

Sthlm is 600 km away from Germany and has never been received here so far on DAB.

Only Malmö is interesting during tropo but has , of course, been blocked successfully by NDR MV on the same frequency.

The frequency (broadcasting channel) for the Malmö NENT package has been announced.
It will be transmitting with directional aerial systems on

ch.7 block C, Jägersrotornet with 4.000 watts in vertical polarization

ch.7 block C, Limhamnsvärmeverket with 1.000 watts in vertical polarization.

It seems that the existing antennae will be used.

7c is totally free (...still...for now) on the other side of the Baltic Sea !!! 8-)
