Swedish DAB!

Post by Alex Lawler » 30 Jan 2017 19:21

After reading a few articles can anybody explain the situation to me . From my understanding there will be no further expansion of DAB,no closure of FM and no experiments with DAB +. Will the DAB that has already been rolled out continue to co exist with FM or will that be taken off air in a retrograde step leaving absolutely no digital radio transmissions in Sweden? The situation seems strange as France has now adopted DAB + over DMB and Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Norway are all fully established DAB radio countries.

Actually looking at Wohnort it's only 12B and 12C that are actually active digital frequencies in Sweden. The regional ensembles have already ceased.

Hello!

Information from Worlddab.org.

The Swedish DAB network (mux 1) is operated by Teracom AB and covers major cities Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmo, Enkoping and Alvsbyn on a single frequency 12B. Coverage is currently at about 41.8% of the population or about 3 million people.

Mux 1 holds 8-10 regular and licensed services, all from Swedish Radio. All services in mux 1 are currently broadcast in DAB. All audio services hold DLS.

The Swedish DAB+ network (mux 2) is operated by Teracom AB under a specific test license and covers major cities Stockholm, Uppsala and Gavle using a multi-frequency network on frequencies 12A and 13C and 13F. Coverage reaches 22% of the population or about 2 million people. Mux 2 currently holds about 14-16 pilot services from several major broadcasters (SR, MTG radio and SBS radio), as well as some local community radios. All services in mux 2 are broadcasted in DAB+. All audio services hold DLS and SLS.

A small multiplex called Bauer Media is located in Stokholm area and broadcasting at 12D.

Other multiplex technical data can be found here: http://www.wohnort.org/dab/sweden.html#Riks

NENT Nordic Entertainment Group will start broadcasting via DAB+ digital radio in Sweden on Jan 1, 2019. Smaller broadcasters DB Media and Skärgårdsradion will also join the digital network.

In total, 15 digital stations will broadcast on DAB+ from January. According to Swedish Press, Radio and Television Authority’s license conditions, which run from 2014 to Sept. 20, 2022, the new digital network must reach 35 percent of the population by April 2019, 50 percent by 2020 and 70 percent the following year.

NENT has 11 national DAB+ licenses, while DB Media has one national and one regional license. Skärgårdsradion will broadcast DAB+ in Stockholm and on Gotland island.
