OK Jazz FM S does work but cuts out does not seem anywhere near as good as the Blaupunkt BPR-3 which gets it 100% by the window.
at least its DAB+ though.

I confim it as my most highly recommended portable radio for DAB DXing:

You're welcome. A pity I'd already bought two other DAB radios or I'd buy the Roberts Play.

Myself I use a small Akai ADB10 for DAB, small transistor and paid 35 euros for it. It is very sensitive. In last 15 months I received 53 Mux from 7 countries. I live in Holland on the German border.
Since it was so good and cheap I bought a second Akai radio and I bought the Nikkei ADB10 which is completely similar. Both are not so sensitive as my first Akai! Strange, that there appear to be differences in reception quality although it is exactly the same radio!

Hi there !

My tiny Sony XDR-P1DBP is still OK, but I intend to soon purchase a new portable radio.
Are there some fine new items on the market or are the DPR 65 / 69+ and the Roberts Play still the ones to go for ?
Which one offers the best audio quality ? (the Sony is great despite its size).

Thanks !

It's good. I have one. Well, I had one. I accidentally put the laptop power supply into it and it went 'pop'! Then I ordered the power amp IC, assuming that's what had blown, but I destroyed the PCB trying to replace it.

As long as you plug the correct power supply into it, you should have a good radio there! It's a but deaf on FM until you plug in an external antenna. Then it's good, if a bit wide.

Going to also keep my Blaupunkt BPR-3 DAB as that is very good on FM. not going resell it.

Hello!

I use Technisat Techniradio 1. FM part is quite sensitive but sometimes it gives the noise from itself. But DAB tuner is very good and sensitive. Have cought multiplexers from Sweden and Poland here in Latvia. Sweden record - 570 km. Poland record - 725 km. One Estonian Dxer has cought Norway with it more 900 km away!!! http://www.digi-tv.ee/download/file.php ... &mode=view

73!

Briefly tried out a new Roberts Stream 107 (in a friend's kitchen)
I noticed its FM mode suffers from a 'Birdie' (phantom carrier) on 98.3MHz (it isn't the only DAB/FM radio to suffer from this problem with 98.3 !).
A local station on 98.3 could be heard OK with the aerial fully extended, but retracting down the telescopic aerial the 'birdie' took over, and blanked out reception of the station.

Manual tuning on FM - audio mutes for 1.25 seconds with every frequency increment/decrement, obviously not DX friendly, compared with receivers with less duration muting, or none at all.

It seems that some FM and DAB radio's work good on DAB and not good to FM and vica versa.

Briefly tried out the FM reception on two very similar looking Roberts radios currently selling: Both radios in a very similar traditional case, one big visual difference is the the iSTREAM3 has a USB socket on top whilst the RD70 does not :

The ROBERTS Revival RD70 (DAB/DAB+/FM Bluetooth)
and
ROBERTS Revival iSTREAM3 (DAB+/FM Internet 'Smart' Radio with Bluetooth)

Like some other DAB radios, the iSTREAM3 is afflicted with a 'Phantom' blank carrier on 98.3 MHz FM (showing a signal strength 2-3 ) whilst the RD70 seemed to be free of this problem on 98.3.

On the other hand the RD70 has worse muting than the iSTREAM3 during FM manual tuning: After a frequency change the audio is muted for 1.6 seconds on the RD70 before audio returns, whilst the iSTREAM3 the mute is 1 second.

So many products on the market now, so many comments ... Don't know which one to go for !
I'm looking for a PORTABLE radio providing good audio quality and superior sensitivity, €100 max.

My tiny Sony P1DBP offers great audio regarding its size but sensitivity could be better.
No idea on how Sony S41D, S50, S60D, S61 units behave ... The XDR V20D audio sounds amazing but no info reception wise.
Many Sangean and Pure references available too ...

I found this documented / serious test but it was published almost 3 years ago (a few radios were added since then) : https://medium.com/@tgheretford/pocket- ... 5829e4ffd0
Winners : Pure Move 2500 and Pure Move R3. Roberts Sports 2 to 6, in 3rd place. Forget a nice audio from the loudspeaker ...
No sangean (DPR 65/69 units) tested unfortunately, only a single Sony (the one I own)
The Blaupunkt BPR-3 is recommanded in another review.

Though the DPR-69+ seems very sensitive, the Pure Elan E3 could be even better : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtP7pDC1K4c
A review (https://bestradios.co.uk/pure-elan-e3-review/) reports 'mediocre' sound quality but from what I hear in this clip, the DPR-69 sounds more muffled.

Help

Hello Patrick,

I tried to answer your comment on youtube but I had difficulty. The Pure Elan E3 is good, but it is difficult to see the display outside in the daytime, especially in bright sunlight.

I understand the Sangean models to be better, but I don't have one to compare. I bought the Elan E3 as I like the large display and it was reduced in price. The RDS is displayed nicely too. It is pity about the problem using it outside in the daytime.
Tuning on the Elan E3 is with a tuning knob (I prefer this method), not small up and down buttons.
