Thanks Patrick for the test, very interesting. Actually I've just received a Sangean dpr 69. I did a crude test against the 93 and the dpr 69 triumphed. I was picking up three bars with the 69 on 11C and not a thing on the 93. When the 69 was streaming audio with four bars the 93 had one flickering bar. I'm certainly no expert but if anybody wants to dx DAB with a portable using just the whip you won't beat the 69 for sensitivity. It uses a different chipset from its smaller brother the dpr 65 and is available for only £70 on Amazon.Patrick73 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2017 13:23As agreed, I ran a quick A/B test : Roberts Stream 93i vs Sony XDR-P1DBP, tuned to 12A multiplex from La Dole (near Geneve, Switzerland), not that easy to receive from my location because of the terrain.
Alex stated "Sensitivity on the i93 is very impressive", but the tiny Sony is at least as sensitive.
I was unable to compare signal strength objectively because these radios does not use the same scale but assuming there's a single place where this multiplex is audible at home, the test was quite easy to run !
So, if you're looking for a tiny and senstitive DAB/DAB+ radio, go for this Sony
The Sony sounds great for portable dxing as well. Unfortunately after seeing how the 69 outperformed the 93 I have changed my mind on the 93. I'm not sure it's such a good yardstick for sensitive reception afterall.
