Thanks to John for the tip, I've done it, despite the hideous noise levels here.

Previous attempts with the elad failed but the rdr54d1's extra gain and superior noise rejection did the trick

So far its time pips only but it's a good start
Channel is dominated by club Asia and rne 1

Aerial is random wire in loft

Very weak Japanese pips on 1413 @2000

I used WaveLab to generate some tones.

As near as I could (I think these are good likenesses) the first time signal shows how JOIF's time signal sounds on 1413. Note there are two lower pips and a third, one octave higher. The second time signal mimics HLAZ's tones on 1566. HLCA 972 is the same. Note there are three tones, then a fourth which is an octave higher. I have been hearing this second one on most MW frequencies over the last few evenings.

Japanese time signals are not always at a higher pitch, but I have heard a few which are.

Hopefully this will be of some use to those trying for HLCA, HLAZ and JOIF.
