UNID - Audio recordings 59.2396 Mhz May 18 2020

Post by daveB »

I've a couple of recordings of the unid TV audio which might be from Kazakhstan. The first was direct from the SDR live and the time is approximate. The 2nd is half an hour later when a signal again appeared on 59.2396 MHz and appears to be part of the same program. I can't make out what the language is - I can recognise Russian, and Belorussian, and I've checked Ukraine radio and as far as I can tell the language is different. The first one is a bit clearer, the second one I tried to select the best, but it is quite poor.

recording around 08:00 UTC

recording from 08:33 to 08:41 UTC - snippets

I'm hoping Tim Bucknall might be able to help, or know someone who can. The best the video channel gave was bluury images in a reduced bandwidth.

Thanks to anyone who listens to the whole of both recordings.

Hi Dave.

Unless my ears are deceiving me it's from Moldova. Moldovan is basically Romanian, and that's what the language sounds like.
Good DX.

That's what I thought too Nick, in KAZ they speak a Turkic language.

That may be the case but MDA on Ch R2 is no longer listed on TVList as being active. 59.23958 is the offset of one of the two MDA TV transmitters I've received multiple times up until 2018. But I received nothing in 2019.
Are any low power stations still transmitting?

JB is reporting that "R2 MDA is still on air with M1 - seems MDA has postponed Analogue Switch Off"

Thanks, I thought it was something like hat, but unfortunately video was too weak to make out the distinctive logo. Also on R2 MDA had to transmitters listed. One with 109 kW was on 59.23958, the other at 30 kW was o 59.25. I don't understand how they can mangae that with out severe problems.

I had written some days ago a post about the delay in switch off to digital for Moldavian tv.
viewtopic.php?p=33538#p33538

After a few researches, I can now point out that switch off has been postponed not until the end of 2020 but enough to give us possibilities of receptions for this Es season.
Here's an article about this matter ( https://www.avvenire.it/mondo/Pagine/mo ... v-digitale) written with our fellows Fabrizio Carnevalini and Giampiero Bernardini.

Thanks for reminding me about this Franco. There was hardly anything else on the band at the time, and when the band opened up all the stations received were from Belarus, so double hop to Kazahkstan seemed plausible. However when I went through the I/Q recordings there was some intermittent activity at the time which was from the Ukraine and in the direction of Moldova. Then mid-afteroon it switched back to the Ukraine.

Slightly off topic, but the article mentions the extreme poverty of Moldova. I've been watching on youtube loads of videos where train enthusiasts post videos of their train journeys. Some fascinating videos of mountain railways, but one that caught my attention was a ride on the main railway in Moldova. The main line is so bad the trains only go at 20-30 km/h and you can see abandoned freight wagons in the sidings, station platforms are just grass with stone edging - even at the main terminus.

I can confirm that the language is Romanian, so it's Moldova.
