A weird one on 1540

Post by John Faulkner, Skegness » 02 Oct 2018 11:34

A few days ago, I reported a CBS station ID on 1540. This was to RealDX. The response I got was that this was CHIN rebroadcasting some old 1930s radio shows which carried "Columbia Broadcasting System" IDs. However, I wasn't sure that it was CHIN carrying this and this morning, I think I can confirm that the station in question is not CHIN. I heard this station again this morning on 1539.9976. There were no local IDs.

WDCD Albany NY is listed as silent.

I think this has to be Nassau. Anybody else hearing anything more conclusive here?

It is CHIN as Franck Baste had it in mid September. There was a CHIN ID "AM1540 and simulcasting on 91.9 FM" before an old time radio programme with ads for Chesterfield cigarettes.

Thanks for this Stuart.

In this case, CHIN is obviously carrying the CBS programming. But whoever the other station is, the programming is very similar too and I heard them this morning carrying 1930s programming at 0400.

The mystery deepens!

Yes John. I've heard CHIN relaying old CBS programmes and Wrigley ads etc. Nassau comes through some days, but all I have heard is continuous music. I haven't caught an ID yet.

And CHIN was playing Latin music up to and through TOH at 0400, unfortunately , I had a several minute fade and when it came back at 04:04 it sounded as if it was into old CBS style programming.

Hmm. This is confusing. It probably *is* Nassau I am hearing at 0400. I did actually wonder if CHIN had drifted. But the CHIN carrier can clearly be seen on its usual low offset.

I'll upload a recording later. Just on my way out.

Thanks.

It's the Bahamas!

"104.5 FM, the national voice of the Bahamas." at 0031 this morning. Actually FIVE National Voice of The Bahamas IDs in there, juste in case you miss the previous four!

At 05:59:55 yesterday morning (04 Oct) I had a "15-40 KXEL" ID though there were 2/3 stations co-channel.
