1206 - Any idea what this is ?

Post by simbeav » 05 Oct 2017 10:23

17:58 - 04/10/2017 - 1206 - I suspect a pirate (or unofficial) of some sort, but does anybody get the ID ?

https://app.box.com/s/0n4t9gdnftb4vr8ql16x0edvai1hi0bj

ID (?) at 21 seconds

It seems to be there all evening and looking back on previous nights as well - at times very strong, but almost continuous music. Unfortunately this is the only possible ID I could get and of course the signal faded.
thanks

Simon

In short, I don't know, but this one had me chasing several lines. I cannot say, ultimately, but this sounded Portuguese to begin with. Then I wondered about Greek. At the end it almost sounds French. So if not Greek, maybe there's an African 'twang' in there worth following.

If Greece, the only one I can find listed is Ράδιο Ζαβολιάρης, which Google translates as Radio Zawariaris. It doesn't sound anything like that. I found this Greek pirate radio resource which may be of use: https://pirates.live-radio.gr/el/am-mw

If African, the only thing I see listed is Emissão Prov. de Inhambane from Inhambane in Mozambique. Could that be the Portuguese I heard?

Just a bit of guesswork and I'll bet you've already been down these routes, Simon.

ThanksJohn and I'm glad it's not only me who can't identify the language

I don't think it is exotic and still suspect a pirate of some sort. Maybe an Italian relaying something else ?

Thanks for the Greek list, I didn't know about that one.

I actually think it is French.

Very interesting!

Africa? Unlisted if so and definitely worth further investigation. Nothing other than Mozambique on the Jaguar African list either.

Am I hearing an African lilt in those vocals?

Maybe Radio Rodriguez Mauritius? Sounds like a man "rapping" in FF followed by some "normal" French and the words trente huit?

Have you got an example(s) of the music played please Simon?

Listening to your sample before reading the other responses I was hearing African French. At 21 sec it sounds like "radio du capitole" and this is also heard at 5 sec. But that name doesn't raise any useful links.

The Italian unlicensed Amica Veneta which arrived on the frequency this year plays folk-based oldies. I haven't heard it relaying other stations/things but you never know. However it has a distinctive pair of spurs at 100Hz plus weaker ones at 200Hz.

I'm thinking that it is Israel. It is stronger tonight and seems to go straight into a time signal and the Jerusalem ID. I can't see a reference to KAN Bet having a French programme, though.
I think that the music was another station.
