1080 - Another one for Interval Signal fans

Post by simbeav » 02 Sep 2017 11:44

1080 is usually dominated by Radio Huesca and SER programming here, but overnight Israel gives it a run for its money
On 31/08 I had a Middle Eastern music dominant for much of the time between 01:00 and 03:30.

At 03:00 there was a clear Makan ID mixing with Spain.

But at 02:00, when Spain was very strong, there was what sounded like a fragment of an Interval Signal in the short quiet period.

Anybody recognise it ? Is it Israel as well ?

thanks

Simon

No ideas Simon. Clearly two different pieces of music at the top of the hour. I deleted yesterday's recordings so I cannot check on mine at the moment. Will be recording later. Hopefully some more info then, if I hear the same as you.

Logically, it would probably be Egypt or Iran. Saudi Arabia is also on there, plus MWList mentions one or two uncertainties such as Turkmenistan and Libya.

Same final five notes heard in the Reshet D (Makan) tune, 4th link here:

That Nigerian on 1440 was doing very well last night. Had disappeared when I tuned in again after 2200. Closedown or just a fade?

And just a hint of the returned Syrian on 567. Since its return it looks like they are running the same content as 783. Was separate programming all the times I used to hear them.

The tail end of Friday's geomagnetic storm may have made Middle Easts and Africans stronger.

Well done once again !
I actually listened to that clip in the intervalsignals site and didn't spot it.

Yes Syria was definitely the same programme on 567 and 783 last night.

The Nigerian has made it a few times recently here, but nothing as good as last year and just Saudi last night.

I accidentally deleted yesterday evening's files before I realised that I hadn't made a video of 1080. However, I found this one recording from 2000 on 29-08-17, but it shows little resemblance to your video, Simon.

You have three lots of time pips in your video, indicating three stations. I don't have any! On my video, I only have Reshet Makan, which ID'd way after the top of the hour.

Even on yesterday evening's noisy recordings, I didn't hear any time signals on 1080 on the top of the hour, only Israel, which never ID'd on the hour.

I presume Spain has now left 1080?

I don't know enough about these things, John, but is it just the directional efficiency of your flag ?

At that time here, Makan was stronger, but on my recording you can clearly hear QRM from Spain (Huesca is usually strongest for me)

Ah. You did mention Spain earlier, which I had overlooked.

Flags are very directional. But in an unusual way. Their forward beam is not ever so tight, but the rear null is quite wide and, in my own case, is very stable across the whole MW band. That will be why I didn't hear Spain. The flag was beamed towards India.

The flag can almost completely remove my closest MW transmitter in Boston, Absolute 1242 just 20 miles SW of me. I had Vietnam on 1242 last year if you remember. Like loops, they are also good antennas for rejecting QRN.
