Re: Ideal MWDX Equipment?

Pascal : are you looking for an analog receiver or a SDR, portable or desk unit ?
There are several products I could recommand. Feel free to use the 'Private Message' feature for further details.

Re: Ideal MWDX Equipment?

The D-808 is indeed a fine little radio (I own one), but I'm surprised one can consider it as an "ideal MW DX equipment".
A SDR would offer much more.
Just my 2 cents

Re: Medium Wave Coaxial choke

Further tests this afternoon in order to maybe lower the noise from my home side : - Tried different USB ports - front panel : no effect - Tried different USB ports - rear panel : no effect - Tried another USB cable : no effect - Switched off the internet router : no effect - Switched off the monito...

Re: Medium Wave Coaxial choke

I watched this video a few days ago ! Mark did a good job to reduce RFI.
I also own a 12V / 7A battery but noise level is the same when using an AC adpater (the one provided with the Weelbrook loop) whose cable is wrapped around a ferrite rod.

Re: Quiet Conditions on MW again ...

When I went to bed last night at local midnight WWL was booming in. When I went to bed about at local midnight too, static crashes from Mediterranean sea + local RFI were booming in  Very poor conditions from my alpine location : as usual, only very thin T/A traces on the waterfall (receiving...

Re: Ideal MWDX Equipment?

Merci Stuart ! I own an ALA1530LN loop and I'm happy with it. But it's actually the only 'decent' antenna I can mount on my very small balcony (3rd floor of a building). No doubt a flag is better but I'm afraid I can't build one here with such a restricted space. Keep smiling, you won't eat andouill...

Re: Medium Wave Coaxial choke

Yesterday evening, I ran a short test with a FT240-31 toroid core. I was able to wind up to 16 turns, not more due to the diameter of the coax. Very effective down to 2 MHz, but useless below, whether it was placed on the SDR or the antenna side or used around the USB cable. Maybe more turns are nee...

Re: Ideal MWDX Equipment?

You will have a better chance of success by using a non-amateur rig (see Arctic DX reviews) and using a 2m x 1m flag with small kafa2500 balun and resistors. Hi Stuart es all, For DX purpose, will a flag antenna be sensitive enough with such a short length of wire ? The sketches on kafa2500 page sh...

Re: Western Sahara (AOE / MRC) 711 kHz

To be consistent, I use the DXCC list as a reference whatever the type of listening is (NDB, MW, FM etc). This means I would count SNRT 711 as a new 'country' (entity). But other people may count this one as MRC / CN prefix. I don't know if the FM List definition of countries is based on ITU, DXCC o...

Western Sahara (AOE / MRC) 711 kHz

Hi there ! Does anyone know if SNRT at Al Aaiun is active on 711 ? Checked yesterday via a Kiwi SDR in Tenerife and nothing was audible. Considering the distance and the path between both locations, I guess it should be an easy catch. BTW : Western Sahara has it own HAM DXCC prefix (S0) ; MWlist sho...

Re: Medium Wave Coaxial choke

Hi Dave ! To fight RFI on NDB band / MW, last month I purchased a GI300, Galvanic Isolator, from Bonito. Though quite effective for some people, this device is totally useless for me. Worse still, it brings even more noise whatever the frequency is, from LF to VHF (the GI300 is supposed to work from...

Thank you all

The Pink Floyd track is from RNE Peter.
Thus, the other station is IRIB R. Markaze Azerbaijaneh Gharb.
No idea about the first extract (male voice) though.
