Re: Looking east

Amazingly (and I say this very quietly indeed) I have no noise this evening! Medium wave sounds BEAUTIFUL! Ooops. Hope I didn't utter that too loudly! Just got home and started recording. Interesting Asiatic conditions. At 1800: Chinese time pips on 540, 558, 639. 720 (Echoes) 738, 801, 846 (Late), ...

Re: Was Asia improved yesterday ?

Just got home and having a quick listen to see how the Far East was doing this evening. FEBC 1566 is there, probably no better than yesterday, but appeared first at 1700. Taiwan Fisheries (BEL3 "Chü Yuyeh Kuangpo Tientai" from Baisha) was clear at 2000 and 1700. slightly weaker at 2100, but BEL2 Tai...

Re: Was Asia improved yesterday ?

Well, it's an excellent idea and there are DXers who do this. It would be good to form a collective for this and share costs. I would certainly give it a go if a place could be found. There are vast areas of farmland around here and I have often wondered about the possibilities. I suspect the mobile...

Re: No Noise Is Good Noise! (Medium Wave)

Medium wave DX is almost impossible lately with yet more noise destroying the band. It's time to do some tests, but I doubt there's anything I'll be able to do about this. The middle of the band is now continually awash with signal-killing hash, but there is a much more general increase in noise now...

Re: Was Asia improved yesterday ?

Hi Simon. Conditions quietened down quite suddenly yesterday evening and Asiatic DX had improved. HLAZ was present on 1566, but underneath Holland. I don't know why overnight North American conditions were so poor, but they were hopeless here. I am suffering a lot more with noise again. Nothing from...

Ooops. Never mind.

It's a wonder I haven't been receiving this as I've been pointing virtually straight at it while looking for India and Africa.

Re: 1170- signature tune

That's a mystery. I wondered about Abu Dhabi.

I checked my files at that time over the last few days and found nothing sounding like that.

Unusual to hear Big Ben on Chinese radio, or whoever it is carrying them. Very interesting.

Re: 1305 Interval signal & possible anthem underneath Spain 1900.

No. I suspect the chimes are from Egypt. You should be able to hear them at the top of the hour on 819.

Chinese pips can be heard at 1:52 seconds in this clip: http://www.intervalsignals.net/Files/ch ... 040104.m3u

Re: Unidentified Scandinavian (Swedish?) Station

Identified! It's Örnsköldsviks Närradio. Thanks to Christian Stodberg, Gert Nilsson and Sven Jacobson on the Yahoo group for this. The apparent ID of "Radio Nyhem" was the name of the religious programme.

Unidentified Scandinavian (Swedish?) Station

https://youtu.be/cLyqNJHC7pw Could somebody help me with this station, received during the Es of June 16th this year. It sounds like an ID at the beginning, but I do not understand it. I am guessing the language is Swedish, in which case it may be a local station from the Örnsköldsvik transmitter, g...

A Perfect Sporadic E 'Fan'!

A Perfect Es Fan.jpg Catching up with some of this season's sporadic E files, it's always interesting to watch the loggings grow on the map. Take a look at this one. It's a perfect example of how the Es cloud refracts the signals, showing its actual 'shape'. Note how the fan provides an almost perf...

Re: VERY good ss morning

Thanks for the tips David.

I was actually up and about around 3:30 this morning. The band was absolutely devoid of TA due to yesterday's solar pounding. There was barely even a carrier, so I switched everything off.

Hopefully others did better.

Re: yet another flare

I say that conditions had blown out yesterday evening. The Far East was virtually non-existent, apart from China 1521 and a few weak Chinese time signals elsewhere. That and the heavy rain just made me think twice about moving the flag from its Asia position back towards the Americas. However, let's...

Re: dx tip

Another DX tip: Anybody noticed how well CFMB Montreal has been coming through lately? This used to be a daytimer. Though actually 24 hours, the power would be reduced and the antenna pattern would change at night, making it a relatively difficult mid-winter catch. CFMB was good overnight, in French...
