Re: Replacement Car Aerials

I did something very similar a couple of years ago. I was 52 and I had incorrectly assumed that I was 53 at my next birthday. So when it came to my birthday the following year I was expecting to be 54. (Hope that makes sense) So I felt like I'd gained an extra year on my life when I realised my mist...

Re: Music Newly Discovered

:) Well, this is all getting a bit random now. Some won't know what we're talking about, although I'm sure they will have realised that it's a play on word of song titles from the Dead Kennedys. Political correctness does not exist in any of their songs, but I used to enjoy some of their material on...

Re: The FM List Thread

Here's one for Günter. When I set up my logbook in FM List, I decided to create individual logbooks for each mode of propagation. So now, before I add new log entries, I need to make sure I am using the correct logbook. I don't mind doing this but it has led to me making a few mistakes in the past. ...

Re: Music Newly Discovered

I find all this interesting too. There's no accounting for taste, as they say, and I don't think the kind of music we like necessarily relates to the kind of people we are or used to be. I used to like punk, for instance (still do), but I was never a punk rocker as such. I'll get the links together ...

Re: Music Newly Discovered

I meant to post some links when you first started this but I am still re-discovering old songs which I had long forgotten about. The question is, would it be in keeping with the theme for me to post links to songs from the 70s through to the present? I have found some many old favourites it's untrue...

Re: Replacement Car Aerials

Well, I can only hope the new radio is OK at the moment as I haven't had a lot of time to try it out. Neither have I had any time to play radios over the last couple of days. I briefly visited Kenwick Top to give the radio a try after we collected it but only for about five minutes as we had a tight...

Re: Replacement Car Aerials

Thanks Andy. I never thought of visiting a scrapyard. I'm not even sure we have any around here. Skegness is a "half horse town". A whole one would really be something! You wouldn't believe that we wanted something as simple as an oven glove here a few weeks ago. Nobody had any and hadn't for a few ...

Replacement Car Aerials

We got our replacement C4GP yesterday and it seems to have the same radio and performance as the previous model. Recently, somebody mentioned the availability of full size car antennas (or was it some kind of telescopic arrangement?) which give a substantial improvement in reception over the standar...

Re: Advice for a 2nd SDR

What I can say is that the Elad, Perseus FM+, Sony XDR and R820TR2 dongle all have same level of sensitivity on Band II WFM. Not in my personal experience. An amplifier is definitely necessary to boost my Elad FDM-S2 to have the same level of sensitivity on band 2 as the XDR-F1HD. Judging by the ma...

Re: Good Tropo > France, Germany, Belgium, Holland

I had another check before I went out earlier and the usual suspects were still well down in the noise, but I rotated the 9.2 to horizontal and heard a few surprise Germans. I was tuned to 100.9, amazed at how poor Wrotham is today, when a German suddenly appeared. It was Hitradio Radio FFH from Hei...

Re: Good Tropo > France, Germany, Belgium, Holland

Hope you don't mind me splitting the topic. Just a polite message to point out that the DX Alerts topic should really only be used when there is an active DX opening. Not to worry about it, we all do it. It's just that some subscribe to DX Alerts for that purpose and it's best to keep it just for th...
