Re: Skegness Log: 2016-08-02 (Es: TUR Baltics Balkans, etc.)

Hello Rolands.

Thank you very much for this. I'm a little slow to update my log at the moment as I am so busy lately, but will do this as soon as I can.

Good DX!

Re: DX Tip - 18/4

Thanks Simon. My antenna is not actually down, but I haven't recorded for a few nights. I will probably be out of it now until the end of July.

Re: Es on 15 and 10m

It's like tropo. I had tropo on 27 MHz once. There will be a theoretical upper and lower limit, but extreme circumstances can bring about surprises. Look at our near 1000 km tropo/aircraft scatter. 800 km is supposed to be the absolute max.

Re: holidaying in Holyhead 6/19

No. But maybe one of the other members of the team did. In particular, Mark Hattam, if he reads this board may remember more than I. The trip was a medium wave DXpedition. I went on two of those trip. David Hyams, Steve Whitt, William Davies were other DXpeditioners. Apologies if I forgot any others.

Re: SDR Console and RDS logging - coming soon.

Thanks. If you remember, I ran more than 30 VFOs a couple of years ago, just to test my system, and everything help up very well indeed. I like Console. The problem for me was that I was more used to using the FDM-SW2 software, so I didn't really give Console the attention it deserved. I have little...

Thanks Tim, I had a look but couldn't get it either.

Depending on the time of year, I would expect more from Brittany if you can get a bit of altitude.

Re: dx tip 12/4/19

Thanks David.

Not got that here. Everything was on a fade at 02:00, but I have a US English woman talk station at .9965, peaking around 01:45. There were also at least half a dozen other stations on 1490 with audio. All of them a struggle.

Re: 1490 Possible ID

Thanks Gerard. This is an unusual offset. Thought I would give this a try, a kind of last fling for this season, as I will be taking down my flag in the next few days for the summer.

Re: Can this be Rebelde at 620

Nice one.

Amazing how we had different reception. 710 was CKVO/WOR, 670 had a very weak talker, nothing like what you heard, 1180 was probably WHAM or something else, too weak to study.

1490 Possible ID

There is a station which comes up solo on 1489.6660 and has an announcement or two, possibly with an ID. Check from 04:45:4+. I think it's English, but not absolutely certain. This is better in LSB here, which is the ore splattery sideband at my location.

Re: Can this be Rebelde at 620

I hear that ID at 3 seconds and it sort of sounds like Radio Rebelde.

I suspect it probably is them. Was there a parallel on 670, 710 or 1180?

I checked my 620 for the 9th and I only have CKCM. 670, 710 and 1180 are occupied by other stations here too.

Hmm. Let me see. OK, I know this is a ridiculous hour to be at the computer, but I am in a late swing of things at the moment and I need to return to sensible hours as soon as I can. In response to your request for something inspirational, I actually DXed from South Stack in the mid 80s. I didn't go...

Re: Es season opening in Latvia

John, I'm addressing my two questions to you too. I also invite you to visit Latvia to understand the real broadcast situation and car transmitter repertoire in my country and DX conditions in my location. You just don't understand it. Seriously. 73! There are a lot of things I don't understand. Th...

That's the big question. Will it? When will it? OK, TWO questions! ;) I don't know what is causing the delay. Wasn't this supposed to have been released a year or two ago?

I have it too. Heard very weakly but clearly between 04:50 and 05:20. Continuous time pips and time checks before each minute with musical accompaniment. Video later if I get time.

Re: My new DSP portable is on the way

Those damn copyright claims. I know all about them.

Yes, the overload can indeed be a problem. I remember how the DE1103 would suffer when hilltopping up in the Wolds. Still a great receiver though. Just a shame about those variable performances between different production runs.
