29 May 2020 - midnight Es Log
I was reminded in another post about the 11pm - 2 am SpE opening towards the south - which I had totally forgotten about and hadn't logged on FMList. For those interested I've included a link so you can see just what was logged by my unattended set-up. The opening lasted just over three hours from 2...

Re: Well.. that was the (Es) season that was...
On May 29th the band was open until a little past 2 am local on the 30th. I had completely forgotten about that late night/early morning opening. It was captured by my background scanning set-up (RTL-dongle+FM Suite plug-in for SDR#). The last station captured was Ondacero on 90.9 at 02:01:52 BST, ...

Re: Well.. that was the (Es) season that was...
Dave B got some great logs to the east to Georgia and Azerbaijan for example. And it almost never happened! - but for a moments distraction I would have been recording 96.5-105.5 MHz and not 87.5 - 96.5 MHz - as I had meant to set up the frequency manager to change between bocks, but missed the tim...

Re: The challenges of a new (Win 10) computer
As DXers we need every scrap of decoding power we can get. Anything less and we are probably going to miss something exotic somewhere down the line. I totally agree with that sentiment John. But as I've been comparing RDSSpy with other RDS decoding options I've discovered it is no longer as clear-c...

Re: The challenges of a new (Win 10) computer
I'm just waiting for the first Win 10 update to cause problems. But hopefully not. I 'discovered' something interesting when transferring files. If you copy a file across - it re-dates it. So to get the files from one computer to the other and keep the date I have to use the Send to command to trans...

Re: GEORGIA received in S.E. England on 16 June 2020
Getting worse. I'm not going to post anything anymore. It always ends some way like this. Don't worry about it - it happens :) It could still be worth putting up an OIRT aerial because there are still a number of Russian stations about. You can still buy a dipole centre for a 1" boom along with a c...

Re: GEORGIA received in S.E. England on 16 June 2020
David, I suspect when we both had Iran in May 2016 that was also a UK first. Certainly I don't know of any other occasion this has happened. And on the same day I had Iraq - from Kirkuk - Radio Nawa on 89.5 MHz, with the distinctive striking clock identifier. This was almost buried behind what appe...

Re: GEORGIA received in S.E. England on 16 June 2020
The listed power of the Georgian station is only 1 kw, and Azerbaycan Radyo is 2kw. I wonder if that is the actual ERP or the transmitter output power?
And I wonder what the 2021 season will bring?

Re: GEORGIA received in S.E. England on 16 June 2020
Wow! Many congratulations David! What a catch! Is this the first time Georgia has been received on band 2 in the UK? Who looks after these sort of records? No-one has come back with info to suggest the Azerbaijani stations have previously been logged in the UK, So the Georgian station could well be...

Well spotted - my typo - had Azer FM on the brain. The link is now correctly named.Nick Gilly wrote: ↑25 Sep 2020 20:38Stunning David! Congratulations from me too.
One question though. The recording you've posted is labelled as "93000kHz" or 93.0 MHz. I presume it was actually 95.1?

GEORGIA received in S.E. England on 16 June 2020
I was testing how sensitive the RDS decoding on SDR-Console is when multiple VFOs are in use. I decided to try and see how well it would do on my Azerbaijani reception. I was, to say the least, surprised to find a pi code of 0951 on 95.1 MHz at 0646 - the same time as I received Azerbaijan on 93.0 a...

Re: RDS Spy and VAC on Win 10 - revisited
I considered using VB Hi-fi Cable - but as far as I can tell the maximum number of virtual cable you can have is 4. Version 4.14 which I had didn't work on Win10 so I decided to try the latest trial version of VAC first, which is fully functional but superimposes a YL saying "trial" every few second...

RDS Spy and VAC on Win 10 - revisited
For up to date info: I have just installed the latest version of Virtual Audio Cable on my new desktop computer which is running Windows 10 Home Build 19041. Currently I have the trial version of 4.64. Previously I had installed my full version of 4.14 which caused SDR# to crash as soon as MPXoutput...

The challenges of a new (Win 10) computer
A combination of a small 'rant' and a plea for help as the new super-fast PC has arrived. CCL did a good job of providing the PC with Windows 10 pre-installed (not much choice is there). Set up was simple - answer no to all the intrusive "let us track everything' questions. Until it got to the "a pr...

I decided to record MW overnight, for the first time this season. Noise levels overnight appeared to be relatively low. Around 0230 UTC 1010 WINS was comfortable listening for a short while and VOCM was as good on and off through the night eg at 0300 and 0430 UTC . I also got WBBR on 1130 and other ...

Re: 8/9/20 Tropo UK to BEL/HOL
On the morning of the 9th of September signals from BEL/HOL were strong and I also managed to get, among other German stations, ones from Inselberg and Brocken, for a short period of time.
The Mt Office surface pressure charts indicated that a low presure front drifting southwards was responsible.

RDSDataLogger (SDR# plugin) - "faster" band scan
A nice simple scanner that skips channels without signals would be nice. There is a fast scanner plugin for SDRSharp - FMSuite" but it gobbles up CPU load. So after a number of years of using RDSDataLogger - off and on - with restricted frequencies to give a relatively quick coverage of the band an ...
