Re: Radio Maryja behind Radio Plus Lublin from a 2019 Es file
Very interesting and clever development. I managed to eliminate a strong Polish stand on 94.7 to reveal France Blue Nord! OK it's only a local station - but it proves it works. More testing to see if when a strong signal is eliminated the RDS data from a weaker signal will come through. What I did f...

Thanks for posting that Peter - I really must try it with my Airspy. Does it work on recordings?

Re: Another RDS mystery via Meteor Scatter 1st Nov 2020
I can answer my own question - playback from SDR# File Play - whilst playing record the section you want with the 'native' recording option. It is recorded in the same folder as the SDR# program.

I couldn't resolve any RDS - but what software do you use to extract a portion of the I/Q file

Re: MSI.SDR vs SDRPlay RSP1A
Hello Dave, I have the MSi.SDR and it isn't great on FM, a lot of buzzy sprogs etc. My Airspy HF+ Discovery blows the MSi.SDR out of the water. I've been busy with 10m FT8 lately, and there is no competition, the HF+ Discovery is in a different league. The only other SDR I'd consider is the RX888, ...

MSI.SDR vs SDRPlay RSP1A
My original RSP died recently. So I decided to try one of the MSI.SDR clones to see if it would be an adequate replacement for FM DXing. It cost me £38 inc delivery via eBay. The attached screenshot is a side-by side comparison of the two - running on SDR# build 1361. MSi.SDR vs SDRPlay RSP1A FM Ban...

Re: Building a Yagi for FM
Hi Matt, With your new aerial - is it a folded dipole, or is it still an open dipole? From how you describe the guide the balun is for a folded dipole, but the connections you describe don't sound right just connected the sheild and center to separate sides of the dipole and it seems to work fine! "...

29 May 2020 - midnight Es Log
I was reminded in another post about the 11pm - 2 am SpE opening towards the south - which I had totally forgotten about and hadn't logged on FMList. For those interested I've included a link so you can see just what was logged by my unattended set-up. The opening lasted just over three hours from 2...

Re: Well.. that was the (Es) season that was...
On May 29th the band was open until a little past 2 am local on the 30th. I had completely forgotten about that late night/early morning opening. It was captured by my background scanning set-up (RTL-dongle+FM Suite plug-in for SDR#). The last station captured was Ondacero on 90.9 at 02:01:52 BST, ...

Dave B got some great logs to the east to Georgia and Azerbaijan for example. And it almost never happened! - but for a moments distraction I would have been recording 96.5-105.5 MHz and not 87.5 - 96.5 MHz - as I had meant to set up the frequency manager to change between bocks, but missed the tim...

Re: The challenges of a new (Win 10) computer
As DXers we need every scrap of decoding power we can get. Anything less and we are probably going to miss something exotic somewhere down the line. I totally agree with that sentiment John. But as I've been comparing RDSSpy with other RDS decoding options I've discovered it is no longer as clear-c...

Re: The challenges of a new (Win 10) computer
I'm just waiting for the first Win 10 update to cause problems. But hopefully not. I 'discovered' something interesting when transferring files. If you copy a file across - it re-dates it. So to get the files from one computer to the other and keep the date I have to use the Send to command to trans...

Re: GEORGIA received in S.E. England on 16 June 2020
Getting worse. I'm not going to post anything anymore. It always ends some way like this. Don't worry about it - it happens :) It could still be worth putting up an OIRT aerial because there are still a number of Russian stations about. You can still buy a dipole centre for a 1" boom along with a c...

Re: GEORGIA received in S.E. England on 16 June 2020
David, I suspect when we both had Iran in May 2016 that was also a UK first. Certainly I don't know of any other occasion this has happened. And on the same day I had Iraq - from Kirkuk - Radio Nawa on 89.5 MHz, with the distinctive striking clock identifier. This was almost buried behind what appe...

Re: GEORGIA received in S.E. England on 16 June 2020
The listed power of the Georgian station is only 1 kw, and Azerbaycan Radyo is 2kw. I wonder if that is the actual ERP or the transmitter output power?
And I wonder what the 2021 season will bring?

Wow! Many congratulations David! What a catch! Is this the first time Georgia has been received on band 2 in the UK? Who looks after these sort of records? No-one has come back with info to suggest the Azerbaijani stations have previously been logged in the UK, So the Georgian station could well be...

One question though. The recording you've posted is labelled as "93000kHz" or 93.0 MHz. I presume it was actually 95.1?

GEORGIA received in S.E. England on 16 June 2020
I was testing how sensitive the RDS decoding on SDR-Console is when multiple VFOs are in use. I decided to try and see how well it would do on my Azerbaijani reception. I was, to say the least, surprised to find a pi code of 0951 on 95.1 MHz at 0646 - the same time as I received Azerbaijan on 93.0 a...
