Re: Sporadic E antenne question

For Sporadic E it is not critical though most dxers will prefer horizontal orientation.

Re: VAC / RDSspy issue running W10 ...

Well that's good news that it is working.

You must be using an old version of SDR# - I thought it only supported Airspy and RTL dongles now.

Re: VAC / RDSspy issue running W10 ...

As you have an Elad you're just unnecessarily complicating it by using SDR#.

In Elad Audio tab you tick VRX1 Enable Aux Out. Output Device is the VAC line. Mode is WBFM Mux.

In RDSSPY set source to Soundcard and select the VAC Line you set as Output device in Elad set-up.

If you are reporting Band II stations it would be useful to know the dxers QTH.

Re: VAC / RDSspy issue running W10 ...

That won't work as you need 192k for RDS decoding.

Re: VAC / RDSspy issue running W10 ...

Hi Patrick You don't need to use VAC Audio Repeater. You send the Aux output from SW2 into VAC Line 1 and get RDS Spy to read the VAC Line 1 input from the Soundcard tab. You need to set 192 kHz bandwidths in Windows for VAC Line 1. So you listen to SW2 as usual and the signal for RDS decoding is se...

Patrick - the version of VAC you say (1.43) is not correct. Your version must be 4.xx?

Re: VAC / RDSspy issue running W10 ...

I can't speak for Win10 but with Win7 you do need to set the Windows sound card properties of VAC Line 1 to 192000. If you do not then RDS Spy will not decode RDS. Of course as Dave B says you need to configure the VAC control panel properties correctly as well. I have just confirmed this now though...

There is no French in the recording. The language sounds vaguely south-East Asian to me.

Re: 1350 - BBN - Panama

Well it was WNEL - the "cuba" mention was in fact "pelota dura" lol. 15 minutes later I had HIJC Radio Emanuel from Dom Rep on same freq.

Great help received from lads on Real DX.

On 1430 at 04:59:56 there is a "Voz de la Sierra" id with a prior mention of Cuba. One would expect WNEL and there is no Cuban listed on the frequency.

It's at this time of year that MF starts to get interesting. Recording just before and after sunrise can give some not so common dx. This morning presumed WRSJ 1520 from San Juan PR was very strong at 0515 with France 24 programme in English. No sign of WWKB.

You can try wrapping the audio leads around some decent ferrite.
