2018-B: TWN leaving Woofferton + reduced program

Sad news have been announced during the yesterday's daily edition of the German language RTI (Taiwan) service: -After the English Service in 2015 and the French Service in 2016, as from 2018-B schedule, RTI is leaving its UK relay. -No more RTI program is about to be broadcast throughout the Wooffer...

Re: Llangollen 91.1 changing from Radio 3 to Radio Wales

According to the BBC, this switch-over will have an impact on at least 32 (!) low power or mid power relay stations that carry Radio3 until today. I do not quite get it: Why are they doing this now, in 2018 while DAB digital radio has a good coverage on the market? It would be more logical they did ...

Re: 5950 kHz - KBS mixing with RFI

Well, the listing for 6175 might be an error (new ERP entry entered, forgotten to delete old entry). however, it gives the same programme.
Using the same QRG at the same time with different stations is simply useless and does not have any sense at all as none of both can be heard.

Iran is UTC +3:30 so IRIB gives ID (with gong) at the bottom of each hour usually, not at the top.

621 kHz Wavre - airtimes

I start to wonder if RTBF has any clue about what to do with their medium wave transmitter operating on 621 kHz. At least, it is now being switched-off during nighttime, after having been on air with empty carrier several weeks. This resulted in destroying everything on this frequency and right next...

RFI International on 5950 kHz Issoudun // KBS

It was the same sh... yesterday and, despite of having contacted KBS World, it will be the same tonight, I guess. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxe7knu0vOU my first idea was that this is some problem with the feed running towards the transmission site in parallel. but regarding the fade, I now do ...

Re: 5950 kHz - weird double

The louder of the two signals which I can hear at the moment is actually "RFI INTERNAT." The shortwave audio from 5950 kHz is 0.5 sec. behind the Astra satellite . I wonder how this signal comes to 5950 kHz between 20 and 21 UTC. It is listed for 3965, 7205, 9790, 11995, 17620 right now. So 5950=LUX...

5950 kHz - KBS mixing with RFI

Currently, the KBS World Radio programme in French broadcasting on 5950 kHz is completely mashed up with another cultural station also in French language with similar strength. Those ones are talking about Armenia and might be CRI. What's the matter with this? Is this some kind of Luxembourg effect ...

How good SW might sound like...

If you ever wanted a good example of how excellent music on shortwave can sound,
you are advised to turn on RFE/RL's farsi language programme "Radio Farda" on 12005 kHz.

This is probably the best audio signal (and also the best propagation) I have ever heard on SW.
Good old Woofferton tx :)

1566 partly off

Anybody, who is interested in getting a clear signal from FEBC "HLAZ" 1566 Sth. Korea, should try out NOW. As I experienced, the LPAM from NL with Paki music is party down. This transmitter seems to suffer from severe feeder interruption and goes off for seconds. Your chance now to catch a clear aud...

But so do North Korea. not anymore, as written above. they are back on even time zone yet: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-44010705 if you were looking for Iran, the day before yesterday was your chance: 1503 kHz - Egypt (25 kW) 1212 kHz - Ardabil (25 kW) 1566 kHz - Iran/Bam (10 KW) 1134 kHz - ...

Re: 819 unid mixing with Egypt

Hint: DPRK (North Korea) does now give any ID with time signal at the top of the hour as the South does, since switching back from their un-even time zone (it's again +8 hours UK time). While IROI is stil at half an hour (+3,5 UK time) and does ID themself at :30 with a very special gong interval si...

As gravediggers have more fun, I would like to pull up this one from the dust of the past. By chance, I have been caught this station yesterday. Re: First MW DX of the season -CRI 1521kHz

Indeed, I have recognized the great 1521 signal on the 4th of September until the switch-off around 2000 UTC. They have been airing their traditional fill-up music for about 6 minutes after their Russiang language program. I thought, during winter season they broadcast longer with another repetition...
