Re: The Conditions Thread

Had a good *look* at the flag. All looks well! Clearly it isn't. Barely any signal at the bottom of the band, severe noise from 770 and throughout the entire short waves!

Really not impressed.

Re: The Conditions Thread

Damn!

Can't check the flag at the moment. It looks OK, but too much noise to do any nulling tests. Need to spend some time on this and I can't be bothered.

Re: The Conditions Thread

Thanks Simon.

My flag has been broken for two days and I only just realised.

Re: Radio Maria in every town and city across the UK?

I agree. On the face of it, it could be a good thing. But it feels like we are losing control and selling everything off. If the UK radio scene is so successful, why change it?

More diverse radio with more interesting programming sounds good. But I fear the worst with this move. Time will tell.

Radio Maria in every town and city across the UK?

I wonder ..... https://radiotoday.co.uk/2017/12/commercial-radio-formats-to-be-scrapped/ So expect all kinds of overseas networks to appear. Are the government selling off our radio dial to overseas companies? From the article: Ministers also say the legislation will include permission for Ofcom to ...

Re: The Conditions Thread

Impressive! WINS was very weak and below my noise (but you could tell something was there!) yesterday morning. It started to fade after 0530.

Re: The Conditions Thread

Damn! I meant 1580. What is wrong with my typing fingers? Looks like you might have mentioned who this station could be. Will check again. The overnight blowout really lifted North Americans around 0100. Haven't checked the recording yet but will post back if anything interesting appears. I know 130...

Re: The Conditions Thread

Something interesting on 1380 around 0530-0550. Not bad peaks. A lively Latin station.

There's a very lively ID at 05:35:07. I can't make it out. The signal fades nicely for an apparent ID at 05:44:25. Maybe somebody can dig something out.

The offset makes this interesting at 1579.9954.

Re: band still open

I noticed 1300 was active. Not sure I can dig anything out. Too much to do today so hopefully a quick listen later. General fadeout here was just after 0800, but only the regular east coasters were barely audible by them. My noise was kind to me this morning, appearing only between 0825 - 0849. One ...

Re: The Conditions Thread

Interesting mix on 1370 now available at the side of BBC R Lincsolnshire's closedown announcement splatter. WDEA is in there with adult standards, plus a talker, which I don't think is WXXI, maybe WFEA? But there is also another music station in there, with adult standards format or similar , nostal...

Re: The Conditions Thread

There's no doubt about that David. Thanks for the tip! Hey, if we all say we're not going to record, and then we all record, conditions should be amazing!! If anybody is looking for a CFRA 580 ID, I caught a nice one at 03:05:03 this morning. CFRA has been quite a regular one this season as it...

Re: 1560 - Ethnic station ?

THE DAKOTAS??? !!!! WOW! Amazing conditions! I just looked at the MW List log for the 8th. So many good catches. A number of Albertans were logged too. This morning is looking almost as good or even better, if today's MW LIst log is anything to go by. Conditions blew out slightly overnight, but this...

Re: 1560 - Ethnic station ?

Sorry Simon. I didn't record. So despondent with recent conditions and a higher noise level after I made adjustments on my flag two days ago that I decided not to bother. So, in true JF 'Tempting Fate' style, I expected that something good would come through. CORRECT AGAIN! I really can predict the ...

Re: ft8 160m

Again, really interesting David. 'Boredom' is the word. What a pathetic season for such a low point in the solar cycle. It's all gone wrong. I am wondering if it will actually be better next season. Alternative hobby needed.

Re: ft8 160m

That's what appeals to me Stuart. As you know. I am not one for wasting endless minutes (and hours!) trying to break through pile-ups. That was never any fun for me. I do 'get it' though. It's rewarding to have to do a bit of work and then, hopefully experience the sense of achievement when you fina...

Re: ft8 160m

Thanks for the info. Will consider these and decide. I think it's probably going to be WSPR.
