Re: Es Alert = ECLIPSE !!

It's been sunny for a good part of the day here, but clouded over at the wrong time. The satellite image shows cloud covering almost the whole of the UK.

Es Alert = ECLIPSE !!

This evening's total solar eclipse will be visible in parts of the USA, but I just discovered that the south-west of the UK (and possibly other areas in the west and north, according to what I've read online) may see a partial eclipse between 1930 and 2000 local time. Sunny Skegness now has total cl...

Unidentified German 102.9

https://youtu.be/0t9tU3uGo4k I posted this to RealDX but forgot to post here. It's an unidentified German (or Germanic language) station on 102.9, received at 1844 on June 18th. I am hoping there is enough speech to reveal a clue or two. My immediate assumption was that would be Austria, but I can ...

Re: Unidentified Arabic(?) 107.0

Thank you Zach.

There have been suggestions that this is probably from Bosnia. It will no doubt remain a mystery.

Best regards.

Unidentified Arabic(?) 107.0

https://youtu.be/zlKdHTxDMYQ

Is this Arabic or something else? To my ears it also seems to have a slight Balkan intonation too.

As you can hear, the modulation is extremely low. Conditions at the time were pointing strongly towards Serbia and Bosnia.

Thanks.

Re: Good LW condx

We had quiet geomagnetic conditions most of yesterday, ahead of a disturbance which arrived during the evening, so conditions to the north-west would have been enhanced, briefly. Asia was good on MW too with clear speech from HLCA 972, BEL3 1143 and HLAZ 1566. China on 1377 was good and 100% copy ju...

Re: Was it just here?

Very Interesting, Simon. My own WFED reception was slightly better than Peter's, but it was the opposite with my Caribbean Beacon reception.

Thank you Zach :)

I'm not sure you will have missed too much. The Es season has been up and down this year, but there have been lots of gaps of very little in the last couple of weeks.

Re: Was it just here?

Thanks Simon and Peter. I checked WFED and it was there. Same for two stations on 1010, so no doubt WINS and CFRB. It was patchy and very weak, but a more thorough scan has revealed a few more stations. Your Caribbean Beacon reception was a little better than mine Peter. Iran is a pest here, but muc...

Thanks if anybody can help.

Re: Was it just here?

The results of my overnighter are in .... *Poor*! Definitely some improvements, however. I heard a *very* weak audio from 1010 WINS, 1400 CBG, 1560 WFME, 1600 Caribbean Beacon, 1660 possibly Puerto Rico and a few others. I'll await your input on this Simon, but since I am not familiar with this loca...

Re: probably just a common German (perseids) 89.5

Good point PFM. I have never heard HR3 and Big FM on 89,5. That's surprising now I think about it, as I have had the Hoher Meißner and Stuttgart transmitters on other frequencies via MS. You have to love MS - completely unpredictable!

Re: Was it just here?

I have no idea about Bermuda, so I hope somebody else will come along with the answer. But well done on the North Americans! CHRF never ID'd here either, but you can always check their playlist to see if it ties in with what you heard. I've been recording between 1900 - 2200 every evening now for mo...

Bayern 2 from Wendelstein is a common visitor here on MS. In fact it's the only German I have heard on 89.5 via MS.

Re: Changes to some BBC local radio MW services

Yes, perhaps so. I always feel slightly guilty when I express my glee over the fact that more European transmitters are going to close, but this is obviously down to the fact that I am a keen MW DXer. It is of course extremely sad when these broadcasters close down after being on the air for decades.

Re: Mystery PI Code A407

Thank you for taking the time to write this PFM. Very helpful and informative. It would appear that my A407 is a random PI. The 300+ group counts would suggest it was highly unlikely that this was a random code, but it can't be ruled out completely. Thanks anyway for going to this amount of trouble.
