Closure of AuroraWatch UK email alert system

Good! It won't be missed. The most useless waste of time ever! Dear AuroraWatch UK subscriber, It’s with great sadness that we are going to have to close the AuroraWatch UK email alert system with immediate effect. This doesn’t mean that we’re shutting down AuroraWatch, it’s just that we won’t be se...

Re: Hi from North London

After looking at all those test cards, I came across this. A genius I had completely forgotten about.

Re: 2018 Es Season Off To A Hopeless Start

I was of the understanding that this season was off to a GOOD start. There have already been several days of Es activity. Compare with some previous seasons. I have even noted Balkan activity myself on two occasions, but my heart is not fully in it at the moment. I haven't made a single logging. Jus...

Re: Going to Skegness in may are there any good FM stations dx places?

Well, I would have happily escorted Mr. UK to the best spots I know around here. Yes, he would have been welcomed here. But there you have it, Stuart. Some people never learn. ;)

Re: Going to Skegness in may are there any good FM stations dx places?

A little bit of tropo inland there. Such a pity the continental tropo didn't get to you. I know it was more directed towards the south and south-east, but I am still amazed you didn't hear Germany or Denmark.

Re: Hi from North London

I'm sure that you remember things like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeUyOVk_wI4  I do indeed, though I don't know that particular test card. I occasionally reminisce over these kind of things. Some happy memories, vaguely being off school due to illness or something and being able to...

Re: Hi from North London

 Oh, I shouldn't laugh, but I am in exactly the same boat at 57. Yes - I can remember Ena and Minnie. I don't recall Martha though. I don't think I am losing the plot just yet Arthur, but I can be very forgetful these days. If only they'd bring back the test card and music. (What's breakfast?)

Digital Spy has been good to us, feeding a few members to us over the years.

If anybody wants to post about Coronation Street, we have the Off Topic forum. I'm looking forward to Pat Phelan coming back into it. I mean, poor Eileen. Oooh! It's all happening on the Street!

Re: Absolute ask permission to close MW relays

1242 Boston/Kirton Drove is still the strongest signal on the band, as usual. I don't think this one is being affected. I doubt it would make any difference if it reduces power. The only good thing about this tx is that it is a proper local without any kind of fading or distortion at night, and so c...

Re: Voice to text language translation

I tried this a few months ago Dave. I didn't get it to do very much, but it did work on common European languages. I hope this system will get better over time.

Does the laptop need a connection to the internet? It doesn't currently have one.

Where can I find obsolete laptop drivers?

A friend gave me an old Toshiba Satellite laptop. It's an L500-1XC. I cannot find the drivers for this. Somebody told me that you *can* still get obsolete drivers, but I forgot the name of the site. There are many sites claiming to have the drivers, then they ask you to download their software. Hmm....

I'm really surprised you didn't get anything else. Was this in the post-tropo flat period? You should have had German transmitters too. Perhaps just unlucky timing.

Re: Danish Tropo!!!!

Ah! Chapel St Leonards is not Skegness. It's eight miles north of Skegness and t'other side of Ingoldmells, which is also not Skegness, though the holidaymakers say it is. There's a bit of cliff at Chapel, or slightly higher sea defences, whichever way you want to look at it. Very good for the conti...

Re: Danish Tropo!!!!

That's Radio NL from Rotterdam. 18 kW. A pest here.

I don't recognise that part of the beach as being in Skegness. Where were you? Chapel St Leonards?
