Re: Coverage of an 1 Watt UK LPAM station?

When I have driven around the sites of these 1 watt transmitters in the UK, reception has always been very similar. A solid signal exists within a few hundred metres, then begins to fade after 1 km By the time I am 3 or 4 km away, the signal has become weak, disappearing completely after 5 km. Recep...

First Totally Spotless Day Of 2018

"SOLAR MINIMUM CONDITIONS ARE IN EFFECT: The sun is blank again today--the 191st day of 2018 that the sun has been without spots. To find a similar stretch of blank suns, you have to go back to 2009 when the sun was experiencing the deepest solar minimum in a century." http://spaceweather.com/ Altho...

Re: Ideal MWDX Equipment?

Portable or otherwise, the DE1103 is a mean little receiver.

Re: Ideal MWDX Equipment?

I would have recommended the Degen DE1103. That is the best portable I have personally used. However, as has been documented many times before, when you buy the DE1103 you have to buy from the Anand supplier on Ebay. Then you need to specify which batch you want as it was the earlier production mode...

Yes, like some cheese, smells bad, but tastes délicieux! :)

A good portable MW receiver. Hmm. Not sure about that. Anybody?

Re: Ideal MWDX Equipment?

Ah. I tried to eat Andouillette de Troyes once, at a L'aire (motorway service station) just outside Troyes. Note the word "tried". I did not succeed.

Re: Ideal MWDX Equipment?

Flags are not 'big signal' antennas, but they provide better signal-to-noise than some other antennas. Their ability as a low angle antenna make them slightly superior to the standard loop, not to mention their unidirectional properties. Flags have a wide forward front lobe and a wide null at the re...

Re: Quiet Conditions on MW again ...

I see a few interesting carriers this morning, indicating more exotic stuff just under the noise levels, so it's trying. I hate to rule out the better stuff during November and February. It was a veteran DXer who first pointed out these two anomaly months. I was sceptical, but time has shown this to...

Re: Ideal MWDX Equipment?

That's interesting regarding the attenuation on MW, Stuart. My own experience of ham rigs for MW DX have been good. There was a TS rig of Julian's I used a few years ago and it was VERY good on MW. The selectivity and audio quality were both excellent. I don'r recall anything remotely reduced regard...

Re: How long before Spain on MW close ?

Not really. Loops are generally very good at rejecting local noise, but each situation will be different.

It's moving north at last. :) Rangstrup is now noise-free in mono and a few other Danish transmitters are appearing.

Re: How long before Spain on MW close ?

The last time I heard anything about this was roughly a year ago. I cannot remember the source, but it was said that Spain had two years left before switching off MW. I haven't heard anything since. Maybe some our Spanish members know more. We will still be left with the Romanians and I don't think ...

Quiet Conditions on MW again ...

Mirroring the conditions at the end of October when the Prairies / West coast came through so well. The question is, will November deliver the goods? If anything, the solar wind is slightly lower than it was then.

Good DX!

Re: Tropo 17/11/18

Interesting how the relatively short distance between you and me, Catherine, is making such a big difference. Denmark is only just beginning to appear here with Rangstrup, weakish and noisy, but Holland is now good.

Why don't you try a Washington state receiver? You might receive it even better.
