Re: Sylvester is here !

102.2 has my local radio station, Lincs FM with 6.4 kW. This is 39 km from me but it is possible to get nulls (only just!) to the south-west, with the antenna at 45 degrees. I have a Körner 9.2 antenna with an elevational and azimuthal rotator so I can flip between horizontal and vertical. Hopefully...

Re: Sylvester is here !

A belated welcome Sylvestre. Nice to have you with us.

Le Havre is only rarely received here and only two frequencies have been been received, but always very weak. RMC on 87.6 and France Culture on 93.3.

Re: Es France

Same situation here Tim, although I have acquired two Sky TV boxes, both of which I believe have 500 GB hard drives in them. I already 'rescued' a 320 GB laptop hard drive from a TalkTalk TV box this month, so plenty of spare capacity now.

Sudden Temperature Drop

I was going to put this into Off Channel, but it's probably more appropriate here. There has been a sudden temperature drop here on the east coast. It's actually cold outside, whereas it was warm and humid a couple of hours ago. The FM band is telling me it's mid-winter at the moment. The band is fl...

Here was my effort from yesterday evening. I don't think there's anything really useful in this, but maybe it would serve better as a tourist video for Gibraltar Point and the South Dunes areas.

If I do this again, I'll take my Camcorder, which is full HD.

I also received iCat_FM PS:E233 transmitting a test tone - which is located on the Spanish side of the border and the shortest skip was 8785 km from Villefranche-de-Rouergue
WOW! :o That's some distance!

Re: MW Longwire Experiment (with two dogs!)

I tried that method last night and it did make a difference, but I only tried it indoors right next to the computer. You can guess the results. I had intended to try this yesterday evening, but the dogs needed more of my attention than the radio did. Maybe this evening. I'll take the camera again too.

Re: Es France

I wish I had one! ;) Far too many files recorded today. Need to catch up with, oh yes, all those other countless files I recorded this week!

What an amazing Spanish opening! I had written off Spain as a country I wanted to DX, but there were so many unusual locals coming in the time.

Re: MW Longwire Experiment (with two dogs!)

Very interesting. I will try this later if the weather stays dry.

I will also try it without the dogs and with the attenuator switched off! :)

I will try the telescopic whip method too.

Thanks Julian.

MW Longwire Experiment (with two dogs!)

https://youtu.be/FiOjoHGxs2Q I have been meaning to post this for some time. This is about inductive coupling whereby you wrap a wire around a portable receiver to improve reception. But I thought I ought to put things into practice first and have a play. Yesterday evening, I took my Degen DE1103 t...

It was up to 105.7. Mostly very weak. Latvia appeared briefly on 104.2.

Re: Indian Station

Well, I doubt very much that it would have been India. My 103.8 Indian station was definitely received via Es during and during an opening which brought in Ukraine, Belarus and Poland. After checking my recordings, I realise that Finland and Scandinavia were strong in the minute either side of this....
