Re: Top Ten frequencies to monitor for TA reception?

This would depend on the conditions. Persistent quiet conditions favour North America, unsettled is the Caribbean, Active to minor storm is South America. Different people may have different views and different channels will be less favourable in different parts of the country, but you would know th...

Re: Tip 22/11

Thank you Simon. 100% !!! I have exactly the same audio on 1570 at that time. Slightly weaker here though. https://youtu.be/B13IliCzZt8 Yikes! I didn't realise this was Panama! For some reason my brain was thinking this was something else less exotic. My first reception of Panama on medium wave! // ...

Any ideas who this is on 1570 at 0600? Sounds like an ID. Sounds too lively to be religious though.

Re: Tip 22/11

Thank you for the tips Simon. I have been rebuilding my flag from scratcc, starting yesterday with a new length of feeder and I re-wired the transformer. All connections are soldered and the coax is now one unbroken length. I will do the wire and resistor circuit tomorrow. I had two clear carriers o...

Re: Random thoughts

I dread to think what that's like. When I have used one of the remote Perseus SDRs in India I have heard several Iranians getting through. One or two are pests here. They are all BIG transmitters though.

The Leonids Have Arrived!

I have been meaning to post something along the lines of "Are we bothering with the Leonids this year?". I may have as answer now. YES, definitely bother with this! Leonid activity might have just taken off. Speaking to Andrew Webster in Wigan this evening, he told me there was a fair amount of MS a...

Re: Random thoughts

After starting to make a log this morning I quickly discovered that these bongs aren't synchronised and there can be a few seconds difference from frequency to frequency. As a result I realised that I had overlooked a lot Iranians this morning and started to go back over them, but lack of free time ...

Re: Random thoughts

Oooh! Where did the noise go? :) I spotted a quite a few three not bongs at 2030. Interesting also to note also that there are two different kinds of three note bong. 1188 seems to be different to others I heard. I presume the bongs aren't just carried by Radio Iran? Or are they relaying Radio Iran ...

Re: Random thoughts

Interesting thoughts Simon! Will look for these this evening. I have often wondered about doing an Iranian bandscan.

It might also be interesting to look for the new low powered Dutch AM stations on the sea front with a small Beverage one day.

Re: China - 1098

No chance of checking MW yesterday due to crushing noise until just before 1900. No China or Taiwan was heard on 1098 at after then. The only thing of interest was HLAZ on 1566 at 2000 and that was well behind Holland. Even after 1900 I have a growling noise and whines and whistles across the band. ...

Re: Radio CAROLINE 648 AM now testing

I must admit that I found myself listening to Caroline yesterday evening. They played a decent selection of oldies which are seldom if ever heard on 'regular' radio stations. Now that is to be applauded. 8-)
