Re: DX Tip: 1500 WFIF Milford CT

.0036 here. Sorry, I forgot to check. Vague audio from this on total WFED fade. Man talking but nothing more than that. Abruptly off at 23:43.

(I'm now getting WFIF at .0011!)

Re: DX Tip: 1500 WFIF Milford CT

I think it's just one of those things, Simon. Not all Perseus' are on frequency, as is the case with most other receivers. This is no problem when you can calibrate against a known, precise and stable offset as you can reference that, providing you don't stray too much off frequency. So 909 will cov...

Re: DX Tip: 1500 WFIF Milford CT

Thanks Paul. My offset calibration is way off at the top of the band now 1341 has gone. My 1500.0019 was calibrated against BBC 909. I'd better stop reporting top of the band offsets, unless there is another reliable known offset I can reference.

Nothing obvious on 120 here, btw.

Re: DX Tip: 1500 WFIF Milford CT

I wonder if my sports (KSTP?) station from yesterday morning was in fact WFIF. They definitely had sports so I presume not. WFIF came in here at 1500.0019.

DX Tip: 1500 WFIF Milford CT

Thanks to Paul Crankshaw for the tip:

A lot of splatter at this time which magically stopped at just the right moment.

Flag / Caroline Null / Random Notes

Having a play with the flag in the last few days, I extended the distance between the two by about two metres and raised the bottom wire by about 30 cm and waterproofing the connections better. To recap, I am using a large flag, approximately 18m x 5, suspended 4 metres off the ground. I have an FLG...

Re: 1500 Sports

Interesting to note the difference in reception again, Simon. As always, sometimes we appear to receive the same things, other times, not. I didn't get your .001 or.0038.

Conditions seem to be getting a little quieter so let's hope the coming day brings in some decent stuff.

1500 Sports

Tentative KSTP 1500 at 23:00 yesterday evening. This peaked well just after 23:00 with sports commentary. It was very weak on the hour but I didn't detect anything which sounded like an ID or a sports sounder of any kind. I am guessing this must be KSTP. Maybe somebody else had this. Offset was appr...

Re: Trying to get back into MW ...

A weak, high pitched time signal on 1179 at 18:00 this evening suggests JOOR Osaka. Bacău/Reșița still manage to make this channel difficult at night.

Re: Trying to get back into MW ...

It's so annoying. The slightest bit of interference from us to a neighbour's TV or radio and there's trouble, sometimes even with receive-only antennas. Been there, done that, T-shirt, etc.

I wonder if this PLT crap was what happened to me a few years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7pFVebOSJ0

Trying to get back into MW ...

It's been a short absence but one which I regret. I love MS DXing but the need for a rest from just about everything was necessary. I did actually go camping for a few days on the Suffolk coast but it wasn't to play radios. I did, however, find a very good spot for future FM DXpeditions. I'll write ...

Barry Davies. RIP

I've just returned home after a short break to read the sad news about Barry Davies. I am shocked and deeply saddened. I was unaware that Barry had spent some time in hospital after contracting the corona virus. Apparently, he had begun to improve but his condition had worsened again. I first met Ba...

Re: DX Tip 1340 kHz

If that were the only problem I had. You should try my life. If I don't kill somebody this week it will be a miracle. All aerials are down at the moment. North American conditions are shit. Don't ask me why (I doubt anybody will concern themselves over that one.) but that's one of the mysteries of t...

Email Problems

I use Thunderbird to organise my emails. Each email address I own has it's own 'Rules' and all messages are sorted into their respective folders. It works really well. Until ... Every now and again, something changes, and I presume it's my providers, Ionos. This morning, all my emails went into the ...

Re: FMList limited functionality

Such a shame. I realise the value of this amazing service Gunter provides ... but even more so with this outage. There was an excellent German tropo in place when I arrived back at the farm yesterday. I had to ignore it, switching off the receiver. It wasn't the same not being able to quickly find /...

Re: Planning Permission issue

Is this the Triax FM8? You're better with an FM5 if you have the slanted reflector supports. They totally mess up the antenna. We did some in-depth analysis on the FM8. It's was found to be 'all over the place', to use the technical term.
