Re: The 2019/2020 MW DX Season. Poor?

I read this article, just about in its entirety yesterday. Thanks for posting. I found the comments below it to be more interesting though. Seemingly most people debunking the investigation. Food for thought anyway. I feel sure that everything affects everything, to a greater or lesser degree. Chaos...

Unreliable Forecasts

I am not against forecasts, but we know how inaccurate and sometimes even hopeless they can be. They are still a useful prediction tool which can be extremely useful. My gripe is with the forecasting of geomagnetic forecasts. For the last two years, I have noticed a raising of the A/K indices when t...

Re: More Flag advice needed !

As I understand it, a join in any antenna line is not recommended, however, it won't be a problem at medium wave frequencies, providing the shielding remains intact, but I'm sure I don't need to tell you this. I use F plugs and F connectors to create the joins in my beverage coax, then I wrap them t...

Re: More Flag advice needed !

Where does your coax lie? Is it decent coax? RG58 is notoriously lossy. I personally use a short run of Webro WF100 75 ohm coax and made a minor adjustment to the transformer, adding (or subtracting) one single turn ((I forget which way around for now) but this made no difference to anything. As it ...

Re: More Flag advice needed !

One of the bonuses of the flag is its broad nulling, so it tends to work better in nulling rear skywaves than others. The null is impressive. I wish I could find an image to demonstrate this - somewhere on the internet, if the page still exists, there is a 3D plot of the flag antenna. I hope somebod...

Re: bad news

Yep. WEGP was dominant this morning. At least, I assume that was them with their multiple call ID on the hour. I didn't hear WEGP mentioned but it was a Relevant Radio format and on the same old .001 offset as WEGP. They were dominant. Funny they weren't audible on the beverage.

Sorry, Simon. I can't make anything out. Checking my 1590 at the time I only had WARV, very weak.

Re: bad news

I didn't have it on the beverage this morning. Only WLCM and another religious station was retrievable. A bigger problem with the beverage is that damn splattering station on 1386. What a pain that is. Maybe WEGP won't be as dominant as it used to be.

1510 KCKK Littleton CO BOOMING SIGNAL!

Quite taken aback by the strength of KCKK this morning. It wasn't there most of the time, but it BRIEFLY gave WLAC the thrashing of its life! https://app.box.com/s/962x1lzlz5f0p05zzugyrji8s25eb48e The point being to demonstrate how a station can suddenly come up out of nowhere and then disappear bac...

Re: More Flag advice needed !

That's where it gets too technical for me. I don't know if there is a ratio for this but I wouldn't be surprised as it's all about ratios anyway. I will point you to the original EWE antenna article where this all began for me. A EWE and a FLAG are the same antenna, more or less, but the flag...

Re: More Flag advice needed !

I would guess that they will interfere. Since it's the verticals which are phased together, the addition of a third at fairly close proximity might affect the directivity. I have never tried this. The only thing I can say, which is irrelevant to this, is that the horizontal lengths and positions are...

Re: dx tip 13/2

Thanks for this again David. Only a few mumbles on 1470. Just a few mumbles and murmurings here. Definitely an interesting morning but signals are so weak. Whatever I have around this time is the same format as 1380 KOTA. Definitely something out of the ordinary.

DX Tip: 1380 KOTA Rapid City SD

https://app.box.com/s/gmmhwdxcoqjuub9tyz5fdpalveubkln4 Talk of the devil, here it is yet again! Reference to kotaradio.com at 11/12 seconds. Better in LSB. Just to add a note that I had almost written off this morning as a no-show. North American signals are pathetic. So how come KOTA is there? This...

Re: Tip - 610 - Radio Itatiaia

Nice one Paul. Absolutely it is DX, Simon! I checked my recording again after seeing all the Latins which have been logged overnight. I am sure I am hearing many of them, but fade-in/out times do not always coincide. There was a Brazilian on 1380, probably Radio Itai with it's ranting religious spea...

Hello Ken and welcome to the group. I don't think you have subscribed to this group before. Maybe it was the old Yahoo Group. I am now feeling that I jumped the gun a little bit before posting this, although I did make references to the fact that some real gems were making it through despite the sea...
