Re: Es 16/8/17

Started out a little earlier a tease from Algeria on 87.8 then with Radio Maria 87.5 and R101 87.9, from Sardinia. A while later it opened to Spain and Morocco, but only lasted maybe 20 minutes or so.

Tropo Spain

Just after the Es have gone there's now a weak tropo to Spain with Euskadi Irratia 87.7 and RNE 5 on 105.0 logged so far. It must be a narrow band of enhancement just ahead of an approaching weather front, which is due to bring rain later this evening.

Re: Early Asiatic DX

Aha thanks for that. I thought it must be something relatively local to the SDR as it was quite strong.

Re: Early Asiatic DX

^I just had a listen on that receiver and heard Chinese ads on 936 kHz. I don't know if this was from China or whether it was something closer with Chinese programming.

Some huge pings here recently. One from PR 1 on 87.7 peaked at 32 dBμV! Crazy.

Re: Mystery PI Code A407

Assuming this was via MS, my guess would be Austria. Maybe a new network has started up? Or a corrupt PI for Ö1?

Re: 87.5 unid. Heavily distorted. What language is it?

It is French and I think that you recorded Chaîne 3 from Kef El Akhal on 87.6 off-channel. I was receiving Algeria and eastern Spain here at the time of your recording.

Re: Check for multihop to Iran

Thanks David and Zach.

This is not the first double-hop this year no. In June alone I had logs from Turkey, Cyprus, Lebanon and Israel. I think there's been more instances of double-hop this season than any other I remember.

Tim it's not lies that Ofcom told but 'alternative facts' ;)

Seriously though, it mirrors my experience with Ofcom a few years ago.

Turkey was confirmed here. Clips below: https://app.box.com/s/qjwaiw89x5l2imf9r1xb14egjyyxphrh (88.0, Kurt Zscherp listened and thinks it may be CRI Türk FM Balikesir) https://app.box.com/s/9sh090qut34fzxd97ott6kbxsrvh3w04 (87.5, remains UNID) But the highlight appeared last of all on 87.6 at 1822 U...

Re: Check for multihop to Iran

I'm fairly sure I had Turkey on 87.5 and 88.0 around 1800-1807 UTC. I will have to have a closer listen to the recordings later.

Re: BORNHOLM DX

A few words regarding local stations from this interesting DX spot. BKN (Bornholms Kristne Nærradio), founded in 1988, is in fact the only remaining station with studios on the island. Bornholms Stemme, started in the same year, was shut down by the owners in 2006. Find out more about local radio o...

Re: Lebanese stations - on 27 July 2017

Hi Nick, Have you considering adding an SDR receiver (SDRPlay, AirSpy or why) to you repetoire? Then you can record and time shift. It pays dividends - but whether you consider it acceptable depends on whether you consider that "it is only DX if you hear it live". For myself the fascination is to f...

Re: Lebanese stations - on 27 July 2017

Very nice Dave! I also hear 'Beirut' at 56 secs on your 89.3 clip. It sounds like it's referencing a business because it is followed shortly after by a telephone number. I may have just missed this as I got home at about 5.20 pm local on that day and it was a couple of minutes before I had things up...
