Re: Guess what?

An SSD is "recommended". But not necessarily vital. I have tried recording the full 24Mhz onto a conventional internal 12TB HDD, works fine. I also tried the same with an EXTERNAL usb 8TB drive, using a USB3 port and to my surprise, that worked perfectly fine as well. I do have 2 extra USB cards eac...

Re: Elad software

Thanks John. I had another Faeroes station (Tingvarp) which was at the time unlisted, which prompted me to check 89.9. I think that would take a lot of coding as it would mean big UI changes as well. A better option might be to add a facility to Analyser where you click 2 points in the Analyser wate...

Re: Elad software

I guess it really depends on what you are using it for. For FM DX, the RDS facilities (and these days, sensitivity, as it's now on a par with RDS Spy, and you can now "pipe" to that from Console anyway) Console is the best software package around. Yes it can look complicated to use, but it's definit...

SDR Console: How to loop part of a recording

Hi all,

I have produced a tutorial to demonstrate how one can use SDR Console to continuously loop a small segment of an IQ recording, in this case to eke out a pi code from a short burst.

It is here: https://youtu.be/shwhJxMW6co

Re: Elad software

I wish I could move over to Console in a way. I may be one of the few who find it more complicated, but that could be because I haven't spent quite as long as I should on it, getting used to all the features. One thing I love about the Elad software, and it's probably the last thing which is stoppi...

Re: 87.7 Manchester area all day. House Of Silk DJ S

Good job we rarely get any pirates down here blocking frequencies. That would drive me mad, especially if they shouldnt be there in the first place! What about those that don't block frequencies? I agree that blocking a frequency that is in use by a station is bad, but if it's free then I don't see...

Re: Guess what?

Whether it is worth the money is a matter of opinion. 24Mhz of bandwidth on Band 2, as sensitive as any receiver I have used and no overload from the Rowridge powerhouses either. Also a complete lack of overload on LF/MF/HF as well. I paid less for mine than I did for the Perseus and FM+ in 2013, an...

Re: Elad software

SDR Console is well worth a look. I find it much easier to use than the native Elad software and its RDS decoding ability is on a par with RDS Spy. Analysis of SDR recordings with a waterfall map and click-and-play is also very handy.

It's CQWW WPX SSB contest next weekend. Expect the SSB parts of the bands to be very lively if/when they open.

Re: Es on 6m in Eu plus high solar activity

Solar activity itself has been pretty low, but a coronal hole is responsible for the current stormy geomagnetic conds.. Kp at 0900 is 6. I don't know if it's just me, but the amount of geomagnatic activity has been on the high side for this stage of the solar cycle - it's normally quite low as we co...

Re: ** Solar Cycle 25 Progress thread **

The recent geomagnetic activity has been almost entirely provoked by coronal holes, which are not "dependent" on sunspot activity.

Re: ** Solar Cycle 25 Progress thread **

Update. The uptick of solar activity during the last quarter of 2020 has not been sustained, and so far this year has generally fallen back to very slightly above (by 5sfu or so on average) the levels seen through most of last summer and early autumn, together with a fair number of spotless days. A ...

Re: New SDR Console version 3.0.26: MPX Output.

Thanks Dave. I first got RDS from Araz FM when there wasn't really anything audible. It must have been confusing when you first went through your IQ file back in June. There was a clear Turkic language audible later to confirm it was exotic. Peter There is a high power RDS. See the screenshot for 2...

Re: ** Solar Cycle 25 Progress thread **

December stats: Monthly sunspot number 21.8 Monthly solar flux 87.3 both values being a little bit down on those for November. The rise in activity in December failed to pass the 100sfu mark. The effect of the last 10 weeks of the year (a period containing only two spotless days) on the smoothed ann...

New SDR Console version 3.0.26: MPX Output.

SDR Console 3.0.26 has been released today. Two major changes that will help FM DXers: 1. You can now pipe the MPX output of your demodulator straight into RDS Spy. This can be enabled from the broadcast FM menu. It uses a separate audio stream to the one you listen to. It does work only to the "liv...
