Re: New SDR Console version 3.0.26: MPX Output.

Thanks Dave. I first got RDS from Araz FM when there wasn't really anything audible. It must have been confusing when you first went through your IQ file back in June. There was a clear Turkic language audible later to confirm it was exotic. Peter There is a high power RDS. See the screenshot for 2...

Re: ** Solar Cycle 25 Progress thread **

December stats: Monthly sunspot number 21.8 Monthly solar flux 87.3 both values being a little bit down on those for November. The rise in activity in December failed to pass the 100sfu mark. The effect of the last 10 weeks of the year (a period containing only two spotless days) on the smoothed ann...

New SDR Console version 3.0.26: MPX Output.

SDR Console 3.0.26 has been released today. Two major changes that will help FM DXers: 1. You can now pipe the MPX output of your demodulator straight into RDS Spy. This can be enabled from the broadcast FM menu. It uses a separate audio stream to the one you listen to. It does work only to the "liv...

Re: ** Solar Cycle 25 Progress thread **

November stats: Monthly Sunspot Number 34.0. This value not reached in Cycle 24 til Sept 2010, 21 months after solar minimum. Monthly solar flux 90.1. This value not reached in Cycle 24 until Feb 2011, 26 months after solar minimum. November was Month 12 of cycle 25. Too early to say whether this is...

** Solar Cycle 25 Progress thread **

I thought I would put this together to chart the progress of the new solar cycle.. I plan to update it every so often as and when. This first post is long, future ones will be shorter... Information on solar activity, and various charts and info I refer to can be found at www.solen.info/solar/index....

The Rise of Cycle 25 (was "Sunspot Cycle 25 could be among the strongest ever")

Sent a reply to the ICDX list Peter, I shall reproduce it here with a couple of edits: Interesting Peter, thanks. I hope that forecast is right! 6m would be particularly interesting.... I must admit I am rather sceptical though. The method of using the strength of the solar polar magnetic field at t...

Re: Es Finland

Last decent flare was a C9 about a week ago. Nothing of any significance for past 3-4 days. Flares don't spark Es on their own, to be honest. If we get a reasonable aurora, that can provoke auroral Es. I suspect this Es was meteor-inspired. Not a meteor burst - given the strength of the Finnish stat...

Es Finland

Now. YLEX 92.1

Edit. Lasted 3-4 mins but definitely Es Characteristics. 10m currently open in that direction to Germany, Poland and the Baltics.

Quite lucky, as I was in the process of adding my bandscan markers on Console.
Not what one would expect to see on a mid-November morning.....

Re: Elad S3 has finally arrived!!

AS (more or less) expected - fine throughout OIRT band on bandwidths up to and including 6.144Mhz.
Does not work in that range on 12 or 24Mhz bandwidths, as suggested in the manual...

Re: Elad S3 has finally arrived!!

I need to run some test re: OIRT.
The manual says that the lower part of the OIRT range on 12 or 24Mhz output is not recommended (= not reliable), which suggests that OIRT can be used when at 6.144Mhz bandwidth or below.

I'll test this later with a sig gen and report back.

Elad S3 has finally arrived!!

Well, it's finally arrived! 3 years after it was first announced, then redesigned, then the old Billy Ray got in the way delaying things further, but IMHO well worth the wait. Mine arrived yesterday, had no problems getting it going on a test version of Console. Not tried on the native Elad software...

If you heard it, and you are categorically certain beyond reasonable doubt that you did, then log it. It's no different to hearing a station and checking it via a webstream... Well.. that was the (Es) season that was...

Just realised I hadn't got round to this yet, but every year I like to post a personal reflection of the Sporadic E season. Finished entering my logs for this year into a ham logging program, to enable me to track DXCC countries and grids logged on Band 2. I also compare my gut feel about a season t...

Third hottest day recorded, only 10 Aug 2003 and "Furnace Thursday" from late July last year ahead of today. This plume already eroding, Heathrow down to 32 now when you would expect the temp to be peaking. I hate to think what temp we might have had if the airmass had stayed put for a couple more d...

Re: UnID from 29 May

Thanks. After a chat in the Discord group I thought I'd check 89.9, which is normally occupied by Radio 2 from Wenvoe. At the same time (1012z) I had the 9362 on 90.3, R2 was taken out by something Scandinavian sounding. After a bit of friggery with RDS Spy (I had to keep resetting to clear the buff...
