Re: 87.6 Arabic - ID sounded like 'Suriye FM'

Nick, at your 3m04 I'm hearing "Chérie FM" as part of a sentence in Arabic. Why I'm hearing it is a different matter! I'm not aware that the brand owners NRJ Group use that name in, for example, Lebanon. Other portions of the recording are throwing up Balkan languages, and other fragments which are ...

Re: Another UNID on 107.4 with Muslim px, Albania?

Have to agree with the placing as BIH or nearby. The chant is "Mubharak Ramazan" or Happy Ramadan. Followed by a sermon with intro in Arabic and then the local language of Balkan type. Religious terms are given in Arabic. Very unlikely that there would be a station ID within a sermon. Nice catch! Ed...

Martha was the one with the beret and the glasses. She spent her final earthly moments in the Rovers Return.

But what was the name of Minnie Caldwell's cat? No looking it up!

Re: What are some "easy" MW DX stations to look out for?

No mention of easterly stations so I'll kick it off. For early evening to mid evening in the current season. 1566 HLAZ Jeju South Korea Even easier, the various Armenias: 864 - 1350 - 1377 - 1395*. These are hardly DX in wintertime but the summer challenge would be to see how early they propagate to...

Re: Solar Cycle 25

Not directly related to the cycle, or possibly not directly related to the cycle, I like this report on Spaceweather.com today: The mysteries of last week's auroras: There was no big explosion on the sun last week. So what caused the shock wave? No one knows. Despite the fact that there are multiple...

Re: 95.2 unid think Turkish 0915 23-07-17

That'll be Turkish with its distinctive "-u" word endings (I don't know how to spell it but that's a close as-heard attempt). Where it's coming from is a different matter of course.

The brief singing at the top might be Turkish but it's too short a sample to be sure.

Re: Absolute ask permission to close MW relays

OFCOM gave a public consultation on the closure of some (not all) relays and on the 3dB power reductions for the five main transmitters. Consultation closed on 2nd of March so it shouldn't be long before we know the outcome. https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/111003/Absolute-Radio-...

Re: Today's UNIDs from Israel and the Middle East

Hebrew again. It has the style of a sports report to it. The music at the end which you might not be interested in, is interesting :) From the very brief amount heard it could be Portuguese fado, Spanish flamenco or Arabic, showing the common background of those three genres. I would guess your SpE ...

Re: Today's UNIDs from Israel and the Middle East

It's certainly Hebrew, John. News over a music bed and at 18sec an advert for... Ankia? Al Qia? A Hebrew speaker would give you the content, ideally including that address containing "alef" at the end. But I don't hear any station name, sorry.

No problem, it's the same satisfaction (when it happens) as completing a crossword puzzle.

At 1min29 isn't that "the Health and Wealth Radio [something]" ie WWNN?

Edit: listening live just now, the ID is "WNN", ie a shortened callsign and not just a one-off error. "Talk 1470" was also heard.

Re: The Conditions Thread

Tanzania on 1377 seems to have been missing for me this year after being fairly regular and no sign of the Lesotho we were all chasing last year either. Presumed Lesotho is weaker on that South Africa remote receiver than it was in 2016, occasionally coming up out of the noise just sufficient to id...

1440 Yola Nigeria was pretty good on Sunday evening. Overall equal with Riyadh but with many stronger patches including closedown at 21:00UTC - National Oath spoken in English then the sung National Anthem. Isn't that an early close for them? I tried again on Monday evening but only Riyadh made it o...

Jiangxi News is easily audible now on a Belgian remote receiver but not on the Yeovil UK remote receiver where there is a multistation fuzz. The two Arabics normally heard there are Egypt and "Al Kul" from Gavar Armenia beamed to Syria. Not hearing either at the moment. Thanks for the tip about the ...

Jiangxi News Radio 1350

1350 Jiangxi Xinwen Guangbo (Jiangxi News Radio) has been heard this week on several UK/European remote receivers when the Italian station with irregular hours has been off air. 21:30UTC and hanging around till past 22:00. I got a match to the running audio on a southern China receiver but of course...

Re: 1143 kHz

Sufficient clues in that one to give an effective ID. Taiwanese dialect spoken. The plinky plonk music at 44 seconds is in generic Chinese New Year style. And on the SDR receiver in southern China it is heard on both 1143 and 738, both fisheries station frequencies. Another clue: in the pause betwee...

Re: 3x (far?) North East UNID

Just for a check on that 1134 KBS 3 sign-on music here it is at 2100 this evening. Heard on a receiver in the west of Japan. Announcer says "KBS Sam" (KBS 3) at 19 second. Not that it was in any doubt. But it's good to confirm that the Interval Signals record doesn't match. https://vocaroo.com/i/s1p...
