It sounds like a competent portable for dx, Peter. I won't buy one right away, I'll wait 'til you buy a 'Play' and post a comparison ;)

Re: high voltage powerline signaling in LW

Correction: the 184 I am hearing at home is local qrm. It was about 10 years ago that I logged power line signalling but only within a few hundred yards of the lines

Re: high voltage powerline signaling in LW

184kHz has been used in the UK. I have previously found a strong signal near HV transmission lines

I recently searched for it and took a rx to a local HV line but there was no qrm to Sauberg. At home there is a constant 1kHz het on Europe1. I will have to carry a LW portable wherever I go ;)

WannaCry malware

The new WannaCry virus yesterday hit many organisations, mostly in Russia and Spain, but has topped the UK headlines for its effect on the UK National Health Service. Speculation now is that it was activated by a Russian criminal network. From the 30th April to 6 May our Skywaves forum had seen larg...

Re: My new $5 wonder antenna

With you now Peter. I don't do TV, but from what I've read on forums only a few of the available HD TVs are what you could reasonably call High Definition, free from movement artefacts :(

I have local DVB-T, but I don't have an HD rx, and most stations are HD. There are a couple of SD DVB-T TV stns and a couple of radio stns // to FM.
HD, Peter? Like in the USA, digital radio in Band II?

Funny little ae btw ;)

Patrick - You can insert images here: in the 'full editor' scroll down to the 'attachments' tab and choose an image.
Then 'preview'

Let me try.... Seems OK ;)

Consumer-ready Titus II SDR Receiver

Panama manufacturer PantronX has announced that it is taking pre-orders for their new SDR-based domestic radio which is due to go on sale 'this quarter' (2017) for under $100. The main feature is that it supports DRM (and analog) reception on MW/SW, plus analog FM and internet radio http://titusradi...

Yes of course! My aerials are still lowered following Storms Doris and Ewan, but 87.5 is very strong with scrolling text, probably roughly W or WSW from here. No sign of 87.8, just a weak Clermont today

Re: Just ordered Com Radio CR-1

The original contacting encoder is visible on the right-hand edge of the picture. I replaced it with an optical rotary encoder from Bourns, shown in test. These will outlast the radio or its operator ;) They are rated for turning at up to 300 RPM if you like to tune fast! Bourns specify a lifetime o...

Re: Building a K6STI small 5 elts Yagi

What exactly is wrong with your new Antiference antenna? Some of the elements look slightly bent, but you can easily straighten them. I hope you will find that it works ok Regarding the 'optimistic' gain figure for the Televes, there are two ways to quote 'gain'. If you quote the gain compared with ...

Italy MW closures

The Italian telecoms regulator has begun the process of closing MW use in Italy, with a series of notifications to broadcasters.

I have no further details, maybe someone can add to this
