Re: TA on barefoot pocket radio 26-09-2017

Goodness, it's an SRF-59 with a speaker! Googling around, I see that the ICF-P26 is the successor to the ICF-S10. The receiver circuit now uses the CXA1019S device, while the SRF-59 uses the CXA1129N - I must find the datasheet :)

Re: Good LW condx

On second thoughts, it is likely that the heavy rain had reduced the qrn from the HV powerlines which normally limits what I can hear. They are at thier most noisy in strong sunlight

Good LW condx

There was thunder here last night so I put on a LW rx to listen for lightning and conditions seemed unusual, not that I often tune across LW these days The two European regulars were particularly clear on 183 & 234, while on 252 IRL was in the clear, with ALG only heard by careful nulling on the por...

AM Bandscan from Houlgate, Normandy

While on a recent family holiday in Houlgate I took the opportunity to do a daytime bandscan on MW using an available car radio (rear window antenna) and on LW using a Realistic DX-260 small analogue portable for LW. During the day the majority of stations were from the UK. On LW there were of cours...

FM Bandscan from Houlgate, Normandy

A family gathering drew me from the comforts of home, out to a caravan rented on le Camping La Vallée near Houlgate. I cycled from the ferry, travelling light with a pocket-size L-M-S-VHF analogue radio, but the family car had an excellent RDS radio with adaptive filtering. To my delight it rained e...

To add to the discussion of 1008kHz, I see that the Flevoland tx is due to qrt on 1st September this year. The tx site will be dismantled

Re: Apps for Android

Is there any way to use FMLIST on an android phone? It always tells me "email oder Passwort falsch!"
I suppose I could try "Jetzt registrieren" and create a new account. Would that work?

Re: MW Longwire Experiment (with two dogs!)

To use the telescopic ae or an external antenna on MW you should 'scan' down from 1711kHz until you get to 630kHz, then save that setting in memory, as per the procedure on http://ukradio.info/Degen/, but to use inductive coupling from a wire I suggest one or two turns around the radio with its ferr...

Re: MW Longwire Experiment (with two dogs!)

You had a bit of capacitance coupling, not inductive, to whichever of the two antennas you were using. I assume you were using the usual setting which selects the ferrite loop antenna for MW/LW, so the effect would have been much more noticeable if you had selected the telescopic rod antenna To bene...

Correction: the 184 I am hearing at home is local qrm. It was about 10 years ago that I logged power line signalling but only within a few hundred yards of the lines

Re: high voltage powerline signaling in LW

184kHz has been used in the UK. I have previously found a strong signal near HV transmission lines

I recently searched for it and took a rx to a local HV line but there was no qrm to Sauberg. At home there is a constant 1kHz het on Europe1. I will have to carry a LW portable wherever I go ;)

WannaCry malware

The new WannaCry virus yesterday hit many organisations, mostly in Russia and Spain, but has topped the UK headlines for its effect on the UK National Health Service. Speculation now is that it was activated by a Russian criminal network. From the 30th April to 6 May our Skywaves forum had seen larg...

With you now Peter. I don't do TV, but from what I've read on forums only a few of the available HD TVs are what you could reasonably call High Definition, free from movement artefacts :(

I have local DVB-T, but I don't have an HD rx, and most stations are HD. There are a couple of SD DVB-T TV stns and a couple of radio stns // to FM.
HD, Peter? Like in the USA, digital radio in Band II?

Funny little ae btw ;)

Patrick - You can insert images here: in the 'full editor' scroll down to the 'attachments' tab and choose an image.
Then 'preview'

Let me try.... Seems OK ;)
