Re: tent. BBC Jersey??

Sorry, it wAS Dave Pierce who was being chatted to
Don't know why I started on this, sorry, I only came here to see what I'd missed on OIRT, nothing apparently, and I checked the band several times today

Re: tent. BBC Jersey??

Nor can I explain why you heard it in the afternoon.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000jphq
starts around 1:45
Tim Lovejoy was calling in from his bedroom in Brighton btw and he mentioned that he started out as a pirate DJ

Maybe a completely different interview...

Re: tent. BBC Jersey??

It was the Janice Long show on BBC R Wales, it was on this evening, I was listening on DAB and I kept thinking 'I've heard this before'
You can listen again on Sounds
How it got on 89.6 I can't imagine, there isn't a R Wales allocation

Re: What bandwidth is needed for RDS - revisited?

Multipath signals are a greater problem for RDS than signal level or qrm, so you may get an improvement by offsetting the beam bearing

Re: Ofcom’s new “covid licence” category

There is no sign of them on FM here, 4km away and I've not heard any test tx. The website https://cheadle.fm/ claims they have started today, but no longer names the host of the first show, and the online feed is some sort of looped test with news on the hour.

Re: Car stereo for beginner FM/AM DXing

some of them claim having PLL synthesizers, would this be actually better than traditional ones? Car radios have been fully synthesised for about the past 40 years, nothing earlier is worth considering. The amazing selectivity and resistance to overload came in rapidly after 1990 and all are good o...

Well, I'm not awake at 02:00UTC ;) but if you are in France, 02:00 will be 04:00 local time.
I expect their website is correct, but you can also check on https://www.shortwave.am/

Stick with it John! A theoretical location half-way between your present and anticipated homes would have a 2½ mile error. No-one can be /that/ fussy :)

Re: MLA-30 Active loop antenna

Forgot to say that it has fabulous immunity to local mains qrn. The loop and amplifier are balanced with a transformer output to feed the rx via 10m of co-ax. Reception is unaffected by appliances in the house with the loop 10m from the house. This without any chokes or braid breaks on the cable. Ho...

Re: MLA-30 Active loop antenna

Interesting link Stuart. I had to try one: bought from a UK seller it arrived quickly. The original 66cm loop is 1.1mm dia stainless and the sensitivity was poor though it shows sharp nulls. I increased the loop to 1m dia using 6mm thick wire, like CT100 outer and the sensitivity increased dispropor...

BBC Radios 1&2 combine

The BBC pop radio channels 1, 1Xtra*, 2, 6Music*, and Asian Network* have combined for one hour this morning, so you may find a few surprises on FM with 1 & 2 carrying the same px. I think the duration is 9-10 BST
* DAB only
The online stream has a latency of about 1 minute

Roumoules 216 qrt

The Roumoules tx of R Monte Carlo went QRT today following rumours that it would be closing this year.
This now leaves 3 of the allocated 9kHz channels empty (if you include 162), as now shown in MWLIST

MLA-30 Active loop antenna

Plenty of these on eBay, seems an attractive unit for non-critical MW use. All the listings simply quote the manufacturer's Chinglish nonsense so you have to look for reviews to learn anything more. All reviews are American and all are using some SDR kit so a) they don't mention LW, and b) they all ...
