Re: HOL, BEL, FR, RDS

Tropo is still as strong this morning. No sign of Germany which there was yesterday morning, but HOL is everywhere, with BEL and FR good. We will leave Buxton shortly, nice finish to the trip on this misty morning

Re: Denmark 20/09/20

Good work Tim. We're spending the weekend in Buxton and the lift is good here. Clear view SE, car radio brings Lille perfect, SW Germans, Holland, and I haven't got above 89Mhz yet ;)

Buxton beacons

Is the Buxton 70MHz beacon currently active? I can find no sign of it when I check the OIRT band, so either they are off air or I have a problem :(

Two DAB mpx at once

Tonight I was listening to R Wales on DAB as I moved round the house. Midway between the two radios I noticed there was a significant delay between the two, like about 4 sec. After much head scratching I asked both what mpx they were using. The kitchen radio reports it is on 10D NE Wales W Ches for ...

Sorry, it wAS Dave Pierce who was being chatted to
Don't know why I started on this, sorry, I only came here to see what I'd missed on OIRT, nothing apparently, and I checked the band several times today

Re: tent. BBC Jersey??

Nor can I explain why you heard it in the afternoon.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000jphq
starts around 1:45
Tim Lovejoy was calling in from his bedroom in Brighton btw and he mentioned that he started out as a pirate DJ

Maybe a completely different interview...

Re: tent. BBC Jersey??

It was the Janice Long show on BBC R Wales, it was on this evening, I was listening on DAB and I kept thinking 'I've heard this before'
You can listen again on Sounds
How it got on 89.6 I can't imagine, there isn't a R Wales allocation

Re: What bandwidth is needed for RDS - revisited?

Multipath signals are a greater problem for RDS than signal level or qrm, so you may get an improvement by offsetting the beam bearing

Re: Ofcom’s new “covid licence” category

There is no sign of them on FM here, 4km away and I've not heard any test tx. The website https://cheadle.fm/ claims they have started today, but no longer names the host of the first show, and the online feed is some sort of looped test with news on the hour.

Re: Car stereo for beginner FM/AM DXing

some of them claim having PLL synthesizers, would this be actually better than traditional ones? Car radios have been fully synthesised for about the past 40 years, nothing earlier is worth considering. The amazing selectivity and resistance to overload came in rapidly after 1990 and all are good o...

Re: Where am I?

Stick with it John! A theoretical location half-way between your present and anticipated homes would have a 2½ mile error. No-one can be /that/ fussy :)
