Agreed, a complete farce. Even CR stations have become Corporate, as with Pure Radio, now Your FM with the Bertelsmann playlist
Who's left? Locally Silk FM, Revolution, and Dee 106.3
The BBC Locals remain genuinely Local!

Re: Building a Yagi for FM
Good advice Dave. From practical experience and several threads on the old Skywaves group I can suggest that a small vertical Yagi will retain most of its rather modest directivity on a metal mast if mounted at the top of the mast. There is an optimum position but half way between dipole and 1st dir...

Re: Best receiver for MW and LW DXing?
You get what you pay for Looking on eBay doesn't help, if we want a Malachite from Russia, all you find are various versions of the Chinese Malahit, but I'd have to look very closely at the details to see if they come with functioning s/w What appeals to me is that it looks like the usual 'dongle' ...

Re: Best receiver for MW and LW DXing?
Has anyone tried the new 3.5" IPS Malachite SDR yet? The price tag around UKP 75 makes it look attractive for an "entry level" SDR

Yahoo Groups to shut down on December 15, 2020
Verizon will close all Yahoo Groups, see https://uk.help.yahoo.com/kb/groups/SLN35505.html Some Yahoo members will wish to continue on the various groups.io channels. This Skywaves BB group will be unaffected, but we will continue to welcome new members including those who come from the Yahoo groups...

Re: HOL, BEL, FR, RDS
Tropo is still as strong this morning. No sign of Germany which there was yesterday morning, but HOL is everywhere, with BEL and FR good. We will leave Buxton shortly, nice finish to the trip on this misty morning

Good work Tim. We're spending the weekend in Buxton and the lift is good here. Clear view SE, car radio brings Lille perfect, SW Germans, Holland, and I haven't got above 89Mhz yet

Buxton beacons
Is the Buxton 70MHz beacon currently active? I can find no sign of it when I check the OIRT band, so either they are off air or I have a problem

Two DAB mpx at once
Tonight I was listening to R Wales on DAB as I moved round the house. Midway between the two radios I noticed there was a significant delay between the two, like about 4 sec. After much head scratching I asked both what mpx they were using. The kitchen radio reports it is on 10D NE Wales W Ches for ...

Nor can I explain why you heard it in the afternoon.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000jphq
starts around 1:45
Tim Lovejoy was calling in from his bedroom in Brighton btw and he mentioned that he started out as a pirate DJ
Maybe a completely different interview...

Re: tent. BBC Jersey??
It was the Janice Long show on BBC R Wales, it was on this evening, I was listening on DAB and I kept thinking 'I've heard this before'
You can listen again on Sounds
How it got on 89.6 I can't imagine, there isn't a R Wales allocation

Re: What bandwidth is needed for RDS - revisited?
Multipath signals are a greater problem for RDS than signal level or qrm, so you may get an improvement by offsetting the beam bearing
