Re: I give up!!!

To do Band II dxing in London you need a Sony XDR-F1HD - preferably with the Konrad mod. I came back to Band 2 dx'ing after 30 years after I purchased the AirSpy HF+, it's excellent for dx'ing as it doesn't suffer from over loading and the selectivity and sensitivity is fantastic. I have heard a lo...

I give up!!!

I have spent the morning taking down my Band 2 vertical and horizontal dipoles and full wave loop aerial, and just installing one of those crap halo aerial. I decided to do this because I am fed up with all the pirates and congestion on the band, the only part of the band that was clear was 87.5 to ...

Re: 23 July 2018. How hot is it where you are in the UK?

I'm not in the UK, but 33°C seems rather cool to me. It was 44°C here today, last week over 50°C. Peter Iraq Over 50°C - Bloody hell! Well pretty near it, that's over 122°F. We had 30.9°C = 87.6°F in Central London today at 14:00 with 40% humidity. I don't have a problem with the heat, it's the hum...

Re: Argentina 820

When I came back to MW dxing after many years, I was astonished by the amount of noise pollution and my old homemade loop was next to useless. Same here, I made one of the classic 40" square loops back in the 70's, but with the noise level that I have these days from PLA devices and the inverter on...

Re: Argentina 820

I wish that I could still do MW dxing, but the noise floor here in London now makes it almost impossible except for the some of the stronger NA station during the winter months. I don't know if it's possible to receive Digital MW signals from NA, but this looks like this will become the norm in a fe...

Re: (correction) RSL 87.7 Goodwood Radio received in Hampshire

Ah, I wondered why I couldn't find Cowes Radio on the OFCOM RSL list. Goodwood Radio is only on the air until the 15th, so still no chance of hearing it here - Wimbledon will still be on the air until Monday the 16th. At least OFCOM have got rid of the pirate 'The Rock 962' this morning, but I have ...

Re: RSL testing in Hampshire: 87.7 Cowes Radio

Not much chance of hearing the RSL here in London on that frequency. We already have 'The Wimbledon Radio Channel', plus a pirate which I think is called Gemini [Edit]: the pirate is not Gemini it's called 'The Rock 926' that came up on top of Wimbledon a few hours ago, then at the weekend we have B...

Re: Tropo From The Netherlands

The only one I can help you with is 87.7 that is Radio 10 from (Lelystad), all of the other frequencies have pirates on them or adjacent to them here in London.

Re: London Pirate 'The Rock'

.....I have received some RSLs like Adur fm from Shoreham on sea... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5wXXD2LdqA Andy That is excellent reception, I'm jealous  that you can get that kind of reception at that distance with just a dipole. I think it was you Andrew who also received the Brands...

Well that didn't last long, The Rock is off the air on both 87.5 and 92.6... May be OFCOM are sending them a message not to be too greedy. :D

Re: London Pirate 'The Rock'

Thanks for the info KT I will listen out for it I used to receive UK Raw regularly when they were on 87.5 they were pushing 1200 w at the time. Andy I watched your YouTube video last year of the reception of UK RAW, I didn't know that they ran 1.2k, I guess that must be the most power ever used by ...

London Pirate 'The Rock'

Here is a chance for dx'ers to try and log the London pirate The Rock. The station has put a second transmitter on the air on 87.5, so it is now in parallel with their normal transmitter on 92.6. 87.5 is much stronger with me and it also has more deviation, here is a link to their stream >> https://...

The best continental signal in the smoke is 94.7 France Bleu Nord. The slightest tropo enhancement and it's in.
Yes the Lille signal is in here most of the time.

Re: Ofcom have been busy in London

No chance of receiving Origin FM on 95.1 FM then if there is a strong tropo opening from London. Used to be a regular here along with a few other pirates. Origin FM on 95.1 have been off the air for a few weeks now, there was a blank carrier running on the frequency last week but that has disappear...

Re: Ofcom have been busy in London

Hi Tim and Nick Yes Tim, Whoa is still on 90.4... their stream has been down for sometime, if you do a search for Whoa there appears to be another station with the same name but the stream doesn't match the Whoa on 90.4 - this stream is not the same as 90.4 http://www.liveonlineradio.net/uk/whoa-fm....

Re: Tropo From The Netherlands

Whats this one it was right over BBC Essex yesterday ? 103.6 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHK1Y2tyCzM I agree with Nick, it's definitely a Dutch pirate because the music is the same as the pirates play on the top end of Medium Wave around 1650 kHz. You rarely hear this format on main stream Dutc...
