Re: 2017 Es Season Off To A Hopeless Start

You are all hoping that posting on Skywaves will kick-start the Es season :D

When it does kick off - stay alert for middle East DX - including Jordan TV on E3. The last three seasons have seen exotic DX logged in England near the end of May

Re: Hurry up OIRT !

Reminds me a a pop song. with appropriate changes- "Tropo to the East of me... SpE to the south of me...here I am stuck in the middle [with nothing]" :D

Still last week wasn't too bad as it was definitely - Tropo from the East.

Re: Voice to text language translation

Auto detect is text only - when you click on Autodetect rather than the drop down arrow the microphone disappears. I've managed to get it to detect Hebrew and Arabic from a 2015 recording. It detected Turkish from a recording from 27 Jul 2017 which translated a phone number. And though it did not tr...

Voice to text language translation

Some languages are easy to identify - others aren't. Scandinavian languages, or Slavic languages for examples. I've been playing with Google translate on Chrome. I can only get it to work by using a microphone held in front of the loudspeaker but it is surprisingly effective even on a noisy signal. ...

German tropo 17 May 2018

Not quite as exciting as the early hours of the morning - but Brocken, Torfhaus and Inselberg from Central Germany are coming in at RDS levels. That is 675-680 km on a bearing of 82 degrees. I'm hoping, that as dusk falls, conditions will improve.

Yes it all back again. Denmark and a lot of German stations in the Hamburg/Flensburg region. Denmark is still going now - conditions came back around 18:00 UTC.

Re: Danish Tropo!!!!

It has weakened over a period of about an hour and a half. It coincides nicely with the chart on Hepburns web site - but the 1500Z chart. The Met Office surface pressure chart for 1300 shows that a could weather front passing by is/was responsible. Which I don't remember seeing as a prediction yeste...

Re: ***SOLVED *** RDSspy won't work after W10 update

I am using VAC on Win 8.1 with MME [VAC Line 2] as the audio device. When I set the device to Windows Direct Sound [VAC Line 2] RDSSpy stops decoding. Every 2 seconds or so the peak input level jumps from -15dB to Silence and this also shows on the waveform display at the bottom of the window. Whils...

Re: Es 11/05/18

The band opened to Portugal at 15:57 local time, just after I went out, and closed at 17:42 with Algeria, just before I got home. I know this because the 24/7 scanning setup has captured a load of stations - all the way up to and including 108.0 MHz. I was recording the bottom 7 MHz of the band at t...

Re: RDSspy won't work after W10 update

It is clear from the screenshots that no audio is reaching RDS Spy as the line "Peak Input level" is saying "Silence". If the Hi-fi Cable output is showing an active output check your RDSSpy configuration "Select RDS Source" - is the input source set to "Hi Fi Cable Output"? I also note you have two...

Re: B2 Es About

I managed to get some Algerian stations at the low end of the band from around 16:30 UTC to 16:58. I'd spotted the initial loggings and set the recordings going as I didn't have time for live listening. A new one for me - Radio Saida 0n 94.5 MHz - it was only there for around one minute, but just as...

Re: What are some "easy" MW DX stations to look out for?

Thanks to every one for all the input - which I'm noting down on a crib sheet. The loop seems to be performing quite well, but has now been removed as the SpE season is starting. It will come back out when Ive managed to run a separate coax feed to it.

Eta-Aquarids active

One or two nice meteor bursts in the early to midmorning which gave RDS level signals. This meteor shower is listed as peaking around 0730Z on Sunday 6th May. It rises around 0115 Z and sets around 1350 Z. So it is worth recording, on an east facing aerial, to see what comes through.

11:10-11:40 UTC 49.7396 - carrier no video - presume L'viv
11:43 UTC 59.24890 - carrier fading up and down.
1240 UTC 49.2578 faded up - but no video. Presumed Gluboyke
12:56 UTC on R2 - carriers on 59.2428, 59.2478,59.2490

It seems we are teetering on the brink of an opening.

Re: What are some "easy" MW DX stations to look out for?

John - at the moment I'm sharing the coax between the Compact yagi in the garden and the loop antenna - plugged into the loop at the moment and will be changing that back. I also need to get my son-in-law to assist with putting the rotator back in place which was removed for the winter gales. Then h...
