Re: Italy now Bob

Yes - it's turned into soup here. Strangely enough at this point (1528 BST) the upper end is stronger than the bottom of the band.

Re: SDRPlay - follow up.

Hi Tim It is important to note that my original post was for the SDRPlay RSP (£175 reduced to £125 a few weeks after I bought it). What is on offer now is the RSP1A at £90. This has a lot of improvements to the bandpass filtering and if you keep the bandwidth to 6 MHz or below the ADC works in 14 bi...

Re: Es alert

I was alerted to the possibility by the new feature in FMList. This indicated a possible UK/Spanish path when someone logged Central France/ to Spain FM-DX. I managed to pick up a couple of stations from Spain and three stations from Casablance from my recording. It was a shame that for the earlier ...

Seriously I've logged 46 stations so far between 87.5 and 92.5 MHz on a 5 minute recording between 1609 and 1704 UTC on 2nd August 2018 - mainly Spanish but the odd TUNa thrown in the mix. The band is occupied all the way to 96.3 MHz.

R1 reception 03 Aug 2018

So far there has been sustained weak reception on R1 for a number of hours. The dominant carriers have been 49.7578 and 49.7500 along with 49.7473 making an appearance in the early afternoon. Around 1120 UTC I got a weak carrier on 49.752 which I've tentatively identified as Aturyevo at 2836/km/66 d...

Re: Es 2/8/18

Getting a bit lively again - got some weak video on R1 and R2 from Russia from 1240 - 1305 UTC - but nothing down towards the Balkans. The SpE cloud was jut a bit to far away - and although the new predictor on FMList was showing paths into Turkey for my QTH - the path length was around 2800- 2900 k...

Re: 23 July 2018. How hot is it where you are in the UK?

It peaked at 35.1 C in the shade today - 27th July 2018 - sometime in the mid-afternoon. A storm is approaching and I've disconnected all the SDR equipment from the aerials.

Re: FMLIST Logmap --> where to point for DX?

Well it started flagging up paths to Greece/Balkans this afternoon - but for the first half hour or so - nothing. Then I reconnected my SDR's (off in case of a storm last night) just in time for the opening to develop. I'm going to check the recordings in more details But the map got very crowded an...

23 Jul 2018 double hop and UNID

At 17:12 UTC I received Turkey on 87.5 from Adana-Alihocali at 3153 km A couple of minutes later I received this strong clear arabic program which needed the full 250 kHz bandwidth to get distortion free audio. Running it through google translate showed it to be a factual prog relating to the prepar...

23 July 2018. How hot is it where you are in the UK?

Somebody has got to do it! One proviso - it has to be in the shade. So to start off: Sittingbourne 13:20 - 32.9 C (91.2F). This is nowhere near the UK record of 38.5 C set on 10 Aug 2003 at Brogdale, Faversham around 8 miles away. If memory serves me correctly it was just over 38 C 'chez nous' that ...

Re: July 16th SpE opening

Thanks Peter, So re-listening to the YL I get ...."point Facebook point com slash knaka point Djelfa" followed by "....point knaka point dee zed" Interesting observation I got R Djelfa on 91.1 on 18 Jul - a weaker signal but this time I got the PI code. Using the voice input to Google translate it t...

more of the same sh... spanish blablabla and stupid commercial music. LAME. Time for another hobby??? Or time for a different approach?? Algeria

I'm getting some good Algerian signals - it looks like I'm right on the edge of a SpE cloud as DXers in Belgium/Netherlands are reporting large numbers of stations over a number of hours

So keep a check as the cloud may drift even more in our favour.

July 16th SpE opening

For me this was a low level event that spanned around 3 hours - from 0945 to just after 1300 UTC. Most of time the reception only just reached RDS levels with the most extended reception coming from Algeria. A few Spanish stations were captured with the scanning setup along with a few Tunisian, the ...

Re: Tunisia

Opening to Algeria still going on - but it is coming and going - seen a couple of Spanish stations as well/ Judging from the map on FMList there are two distinct SpE clouds - one off of the Brittany peninsula and the other over southwest France. It is the latter that is giving me reception.

Re: DAB & SDR (Qt-DAB + RSPduo)

Qt-dab runs AirSpy, rtl stick, and SDRPlay (original). It works best with SDRPlay because the Airspy has too wide a bandwidth and the rtl-stick has a limited dynamic range. Another program you could try is QIRX - it basically uses an rtl-stick, but you can play back recorded 16-bit files from HDSDR ...

Re: ES 12/07/2018

I'm just on the edge of the SpE opening - with signals coming and going in the 66-74 MHz OIRT band from Belarus. The previous SpE received was back on the 7th July - so the season is not very good.
