Re: Conditions Improving

I gave up MW DXing - due to wideband interference totally wiping out the band. I still had amakeshift MW antenna - which was good enough to monitor if ever the band became clear. Lo and behold - last time I checked a couple for days ago it was clear. And has stayed clear (so far!). So I've re-connec...

Re: Tropo Wed 13th Feb

...What you are reporting as DX are my daily regulars, many of which reach RDS levels. Lille, Egem, etc. are my locals. Sorry, just not my idea of tropo. Maybe I have just been de-gruntled. I agree - I call them semi-DX stations. I generally don't even bother to log the closer German DX stations un...

Re: Tropo Wed 13th Feb

Late evening of the 13th produced very strong/clear signals from Belgium and Holland on the vertical antenna. Totally noise free stereo (O=5) on some stations- which is very unusual. German signals were limited, generally, to under 500 km but did include some low power stations (O=1-2). The 24/7 set...

Re: Tropo Wed 13th Feb

DAB from Belgium (6D, 12A), The Netherlands (9D), and France (7D, 8A, 8D) coming in with audio this evening, although Belgium on 6D looks to have co-channel interference now.

Re: Tropo Wed 13th Feb

Down in this corner of the UK the nearer German stations are coming through at RDS PI code levels at this time (15:55 UTC). Hopefully it is the start of a good tropo opening. The usual 24/7 monitoring system is running and I look forward to seeing what develops overnight. The antenna for this is a T...

Re: Analogue TV-DX logs from 1990/91

Thanks for the info Andy - FMList puts it as exactly 1200 km. RMF FM on 93.3 comes from that site. That is the furthest tropo distance I've had on Analogue TV. The best FM tropo distance was also 1200 km - from Sweden (SR P4 Kisa) in October 2015 and in 2017 tropo from Poland (Lebork) on FM at 1173 k...

Re: Quadrantids 2019

I think you will run into issues. SDR apps write a lot of data to the disk and there will be enormous contention between the two apps. No doubt memory buffering will come into play - how much memory do you have? Can't each SDR record to a different disk? Stuart Taking the 2nd point first. That's ho...

Analogue TV-DX logs from 1990/91

I just found an old diary from the time I had a 4-bay Triax BB aerial, along with fixed loft mounted aerials for Band I and Band III. Of particular interest to me is a note for 3rd Sept 1991: "POLAND Ch 36. TELEWIZJA NOCA programma 2 as positive id". Would anyone have a record of what transmitter si...

Re: Quadrantids 2019

Hopefully this meteor shower will give some results. It is circumpolar - and if I interpret the star charts correctly it is highest in the sky - almost overhead at around 6 am.

Re: Bread-board circuit construction any one?

I've come across a "construction" article for a superhet receiver in the Oct 1923 issue of "Experimental Wireless" https://www.americanradiohistory.com/Archive-Experimental%20Wireless/20s/Experimental%20Wireless-1923-10.pdf There is also an article offering an explanation for the fading of signals a...

Re: Tropo on Christmas day?

On the vertical aerial the waterfall on the SDR display is starting to look like SpE soup, making it difficult to resolve RDS.

How many (p)teradacytyls does What's Up use?

I had to share the above question - which my wife asked me today - worried about whether it would use up to much data. [She only has 500 mB data allowance on the monthly sim card].] OK it's my fault she calls it What's Up - as that's what I christened it - along with their rivals Faceache and Instag...

DAB tropo lift

DAB reception is developing very rapidly as night falls. Belgium, Holland, France and now Germany on 10A. I'm using QT-DAB - the sdrplay version and QIRX with airspy - not so good as the bandwidth is too wide. The aerial is a cobbled together 4 element yagi at about 4 m / 13 ft pointing out to the e...

That looks very interesting - it looks like they will be making them to order - as they can produce one or two per day.

Re: What happened to the Geminids and Ursids??

I will give the Quadrantids a go come January 4th, if I remember.
I'll just record the bottom of band for a few hours - enough to get a feel for the conditions - provided the unspeakable i-Trip isn't wiping out 87.5 - 93.0 MHz!

What happened to the Geminids and Ursids??

Has everyone else suffered from an almost complete lack of meteor reception in December? Going over the European logs on FMList 2014/15/16 there were plenty of reports - into the hundreds for the Geminids. This year I got just the very occasional ping barely above the noise and judging by the lack o...

Re: Notch filter for 92.3 MHz?

That is a good possibility - but with a double notch filter you can slightly broaden the width of the null to remove the whole channel.

Re: Notch filter for 92.3 MHz?

If you are going to build an expensive aerial system it might be better to purchase a filter. It would cost less than making one, especially if you consider the time involved.Check out the web-site www.tinlee.com. This filter looks to be what you need http://www.tinlee.com/PDF/VR7-instu-page-LC-7-14...

Yes - they were available. I don't think the one I had was from Tandy back in the 70's.
