Unid from 15 Jun 2018 opening

For a brief period around 1730 UTC I received a number of Turkish stations from Istanbul. Amongst the stations received was one on 92.0 MHz that identified itself as something like "Rushki Radio". I've attached the audio clip - the id is around 33 seconds in. There are other stations coming and goin...

Re: Best SDR free Software for R820T2 dongle

Hi Pascal, I am using SDR Sharp Build 1655 with an RTL dongle. I SDR# the best software overall because of the plug-ins available. I use a plug-in for the reception of analogue TV on Band I. But it doesn't matter what software you use - in a city with many nearby strong transmitters you will find th...

Re: ES North Africa

I'm listening to my recordings again, and have definitely identified Casablanca on a number of frequencies. :D Seriously though - what I've listened to so far from around 17:00 to 18:00 UTC has a load of Arabic stations coming and going. The are either mixing with other Arabic stations or with Spani...

Re: ES North Africa

Check your recordings from around that time and see if you had it too, good luck . I've just gone and deleted my recording around that time. I shall check the slightly earlier times which covered 89 - 98 MHz. By any chance was it a talk show with a male presenter speaking English with an Irish acce...

Re: ES North Africa

I don't have the time to do loads of live DXing, and I also can't concentrate on computer displays for too long before the neck starts aching. So I'm finding it necessary to auto-log a lot of the time. This is not necessarily a bad thing as it gives me a good idea of wht openings have occurred - it ...

Re: Es 09/06/18

I was going out as reception to the East opened up. Strong signals on the car radio from HRT-HR1 on 93.3, the only problem was as soon as it faded a bit the AF function went and found another signal with the same PI code - which happened to be BBC R1 (C201)! Loads of stations automatically logged vi...

Re: FMList Visual Logbook page not working - WORKAROUND

Or just choose "Standard OSM" in the "Map-Style" drop-down menu, right under the map. Doh!! I need a 're-boot the day' option. :D Now that I have finally looked properly - once the choice is made it is saved. Streetmap doesn't give a satelllite view but the ap is clearer than Google - and th...

FMList Visual Logbook page not working - WORKAROUND

If your Visual logbook page has a greyed out map change the web address from : www.fmlist.org/fm_logmap.php?datum............... to www.fmlist.org/fm_logmap_o.php?datum............. the simplest thing to do is insert the extra characters and press <Enter> again Thanks to Guido in the other skywaves ...

Re: Tropo > Denmark

Yes - we could do with a blank SpE day tomorrow. Tropo here is well down at the moment, but if the forecast is accurate things should build up over the next 12 hours or so as the weather moves southwards.

Re: Es Mon 4th June 2018

It has gone totally mental this evening - the Spanish/south opening faded out and was suddenly replaced by stuff from the East. I've done relatively little live logging - so my work will be cut out with the recordings. Highlights were St Petersburg on 89.7 at 1727 UTC. During this period until now B...

Re: Es Mon 4th June 2018

Here it is very patchy - confined to BoB - with reception from TUN, MRC, ALG, POR popping up for brief periods. I have had 87.8 Chaine 1 from Mecheria, but I can't add in the FMlist log, because it's not present there??? It appears on myFM for me - have you entered frequency correctly? I find that, ...

Re: Es (SpE) 03-06-2018 - look for double hop

A few Spanish stations are showing up on the "dongle-log" for the south facing aerial now. (1130 local time). Nothing on the East facing aerial. Broadening the topic a bit - so far this season appears to be almost exclusively to the South / South East. I was on holiday from 26th May to 2nd June so m...

Es (SpE) 03-06-2018 - look for double hop

Looking at the MUF map and transposing the figures onto a Great Circle map suggests that Middle East double hop is a possibility - depends if the band is swamped by Italians. I was listening to Greek hams on 50 MHz at 0730 local time. From around 0800 local time Algeria and Tunisia on Band II were c...

You are all hoping that posting on Skywaves will kick-start the Es season :D

When it does kick off - stay alert for middle East DX - including Jordan TV on E3. The last three seasons have seen exotic DX logged in England near the end of May

Re: Hurry up OIRT !

Reminds me a a pop song. with appropriate changes- "Tropo to the East of me... SpE to the south of me...here I am stuck in the middle [with nothing]" :D

Still last week wasn't too bad as it was definitely - Tropo from the East.

Re: Voice to text language translation

Auto detect is text only - when you click on Autodetect rather than the drop down arrow the microphone disappears. I've managed to get it to detect Hebrew and Arabic from a 2015 recording. It detected Turkish from a recording from 27 Jul 2017 which translated a phone number. And though it did not tr...

Voice to text language translation

Some languages are easy to identify - others aren't. Scandinavian languages, or Slavic languages for examples. I've been playing with Google translate on Chrome. I can only get it to work by using a microphone held in front of the loudspeaker but it is surprisingly effective even on a noisy signal. ...

German tropo 17 May 2018

Not quite as exciting as the early hours of the morning - but Brocken, Torfhaus and Inselberg from Central Germany are coming in at RDS levels. That is 675-680 km on a bearing of 82 degrees. I'm hoping, that as dusk falls, conditions will improve.
