Re: Es 16/8/17

Spain, Algeria, and I got MRC on 88.5 with PI code of 1201 at 0854 UTC - 2668 km. It's turning into an extended opening improving as it goes on - and going strong as I press the 'submit' button at 0929 UTC (1029 BST).

Re: Italy B2 12/08/17

I was out all day - but the 24/7 scanning log (RTL-SDR powered) shows a reasonable number of stations coming in from Italy between 13:19 and 14:49 UTC. I've yet to log these as I'm going through the evening recordings of M-S but as these showed mostly on the south pointing aerial they would most lik...

Re: Perseids 2017

I thought this was an amusing coincidence - received on 91.8 MHz during a better meteor burst https://app.box.com/s/9jb1x6j9ka8g06kgwthdii26qp0vemrm I didn't get a valid pi code but it sounds like it was RTE 2 FM to me. I had little time or disc space to devote to the Perseids - but for the short pe...

Re: Check for multihop to Iran

Hi Nick, Nothing exotic turned up in the files although at 1822 UTC I had some intense SpE across the lower part of the band giving solid 0% ber on TDS from a whole bunch of stations from Istanbul over a period of around 2 minutes. Around 1728 UTC I had a number of Arabic speaking stations - which t...

Re: Exotic reception 67.04 MHz - 19 July 2017

I have looked up the distances on 67.04 MHz , multi hop seems possible on these (for QTH London) I have been advised that the reception was R Rossii from Kochubey (GKTR Dagestan). I also received other double hop signals on other frequencies including a "turkish sounding" station on 70.31. This was...

Check for multihop to Iran

At around 1730 UTC DX maps MUF chart shows high MUF over Czechia and the Bosphorus - which according to the Great Circle projection suggests we could find some interesting exotics. I'm not showing a lot of potential on the SDR but it is worth an alert.

Re: More exotic reception 19 Jul 2017

Victor has identified the tx on 70.7 - actually 70.31 - as R. Rossii from Cherkessk/RTPS which is as 3142 km / 88 deg. And going back over the recording I found a trace of carrier and a snatch of audio at the same time on 72.11 which would be R. Mayak but too weak to consider logging.

More exotic reception 19 Jul 2017

Trawling through the recordings from 19 July 2017 is producing more double hop stations. I have a very clear id on 66.20 MHz for Radio Rossii at 0929 - the distinctive music and YL announcing "Radio Rossii". Marginal (but good enough to confirm) signals on 68.36 and 68.51 have the same programming. ...

Exotic reception 67.04 MHz - 19 July 2017

I'm gradually clearing my recorded files - and found a small batch on 66-74 MHZ from 19 July I hadn't listened to. This is what I found on 67.04 MHz https://app.box.com/s/ujnok1xyjh61tmeyhvmcf0r3faxznctt The dominant station is UKR Kultura - but coming and going is another station which sounds vague...

Re: Lebanese stations - on 27 July 2017

Hi Nick, Have you considering adding an SDR receiver (SDRPlay, AirSpy or why) to you repetoire? Then you can record and time shift. It pays dividends - but whether you consider it acceptable depends on whether you consider that "it is only DX if you hear it live". For myself the fascination is to fi...

Re: What if ...

I would like to think that the FM Band will still be used by low powered local stations for a long time to come - hopefully they will use RDS. Judging by the number of stations I receive on SpE that are under 500 watts (listed) that could prove even more interesting. This year there are plenty of st...

Re: Today's UNIDs from Israel and the Middle East

Well despite careful listening I failed to log any exotics - there was too much activity from the Balkans. A couple of hundred km made all the difference. However - see my post for the 27th :) a couple of minutes of Lebanese reception as an opening to Greece/Balkans faded away. John - I'm very inter...

Lebanese stations - on 27 July 2017

A nice bonus after trawling through a load of I/Q files recorded on the 27th July 2017. I had found low level SpE activity from around 1435 UTC which had yielded a number of Greek stations over a period of around an hour before conditions changed to favour the Balkans. Activity was never strong and ...

Re: Es > Israel

Hi John, Thanks 10:02 to 10:06 is showing signs of "middle eastern" music in the background on 87.6 - so a clip from that period. I'll probably only get round to a proper check of the full recordings tonight - so hopefully I'll find something. I was recording 87.5 - 94.2 and 94.0 - 103.0 - so here's...

Re: Es > Israel

I've checked the recording and I've got something coming and going behind BNR Horizont on 87.6. Interestingly there is a persistent echo on the BNR station - so I'm getting the low power tx at the same time. If there is a recording of the Israeli station I could cross check the background station ag...

Re: lightning scatter

I pull out all the aerial leads and shut down! I can't disconnect the pre-amps etc and one of then was killed a couple of weeks back. This time it looks like the youview box got zapped - couldn't get it to work even after totally re-loading software - it just wouldn't change from "waking up" - and I...

Solar Activity - Storm warning

In case no one else has picked up the info - a Coronal Mass was ejected from the sun on 14 Jul 2017 which will impact the earth at around 1600 UTC Sunday 16 Jul 2017. A G2 moderate storm is forecast - maybe we'll get an aurora and some auroral Es and maybe it will kick start some SpE. I hope so as t...

Perfect Raspberrry Jam!

In the absence of any DX - now for something completely different! I've just cooked up another batch of my scrumptious raspberry jam - with a little help from my grandson. The recipe is simple and the result is always loads better than what you buy. Pre-preparation: Thoroughly wash the jam jars and ...
