Re: TROP>DENMARK

Well John - I didn't get anything from Poland whilst Denmark peaked very strongly for a relatively short period of time here. A DXer 6 miles to the west of me logged Sweden at around the same time - but nothing heard here - not least because the lower end of the band was affected by a local iTrip wh...

Re: The season so far?

I've no idea how the season compares with others at it is my first one and marred by severe interference most times that blots out even the locals. However I had clear reception conditions for the 27/28th and 30th of Sept/1st of Nov. The 28th was the best period of reception for me with the followin...

28/09/2018 TA reception

Overnight the blanket QRN was absent - and I got a number of stations from across the pond. 0158Z and later 1520 - ESPN 1520. There something about the voice of this announcer that make it easier to understand thought noise. Can only be resolved on LSB due to a European station on 1521 0358-0402Z 66...

Early CRI 1521 DX 1700Z 28/09

Got home jut before 1700Z and grabbed the portable to check if the blanket interference was still absent and found CRI on 1521 kHz coming through quite clearly with the signature tune sequence just before the hour and through to just after the hour. Hopefully it indicates a decent DX evening - and w...

Re: Tropo Next Week?

Some good signals on Band II from Germany, plus the 'usual' Dutch and Belgian stations at good strength. On DAB I've got Dutch, French and Belgian stations - with a new one - TestBruxelles 2 on 6D. One some muxes there were strong signals, but nothing was resolved - presumably two different networks...

Re: the itrip from hell

The one that plagues me is centred on 89.0 MHz and has spurious carriers that spread +/- 3 MHz, or more. Fortunately the owner of the vehicle has got into the habit of switching it off when they leave the car - after I mentioned to them that I'd tracked the interference down to their car.

Re: The Conditions Thread

Two clear days and one clear night on the 18th and 19th - with an abrupt return of the interference just after 21:00 UTC on the 19th. I couldn't find any TA signals in the early hours of the 19th, but the evening of the 18th gave some nice Asian signals. In particular on 1143 Taiwan at 1858-1902 was...

Re: Skegness Files 2016-01-01 (Au Es > FIN S NOR ISL)

I remember that opening very well. I won't attempt to access the posted files - download speed is only 5 Mbps If you have files that span the the period 0140 - 0145 UTC - look for reception of the Faroe Isles. I got full RDS on 89.9, 92.8, and also 94.3 MHz. Finland Norway Sweden Island and Wales al...

Re: This Evening's Orientals

Thanks John, I will copy/save that file for reference. The interference here disappeared sometime in the afternoon - in time for the evening DX (17/09/2018). My loop is disconnected but I tried the Tecsun portable. CRI on 1521 kHz was good prior to it's shut down before 2000 UTC and 2100 UTC I was g...

Sick as a parrot!

I am feeling as sick as a parrot! - as the saying goes. We went over to my daughter's new house on the Isle of Grain to baby-sit and I took my Tecsun PL380. Incidentally the tuning and volume controls are very dodgy now - almost scheduled for the skip. So I checked the MW band in the late afternoon,...

Re: Tip For DaveB

Hi John, Thanks for the tip but the band wide interference on MW was going with vengeance - with the peaks 45dB above the noise floor. At the moment it has improved to 'only' 30 dB but keeps jumping back up. So no DX last night or in the early hours of the morning. :x With the interference at the 30...

Re: Is she saying "Thailand Radio"?

Thanks for help - I was pretty sure the music ruled out Asian origin. I missed seeing the last entry in MWList for Europe was "I AM Radio" from Italy. I suppose 0.5 kw from Italy isn't too bad for reception - especially as that was the direction of the loop's null at the time.

Is she saying "Thailand Radio"?

Station id on 1350 KHz 13 Sep 2018 at 200 UTC. I can't make up my mind about this one. Listening just before 200UTC this station appears to come on air or fad from nothing. The YL announcer repeats the station id three times - the last one sounds like "Thailand radio" - the first two could be "I am ...

Re: The Solar Minimum Has Arrived!

The first thing to say is that we will not know for sure that the when the sunspot minimum is until at least six months after it has passed because of the need to average to results. The second thing is that according to charts going back a long way, the effective minimum lasts a couple of years. Th...

Re: First MW DX of the season -CRI 1521kHz

Unfortunately the noise is 24 hr long now. My best guess is it is something solar powered, though I'm not sure. When I was first testing the loop in the Spring there was no sign of it. Then when I re-installed it - it was OK Day 1 - was present on Day 2 and got worse. Wasn't there at night, but then...

Re: dx tip 10/9

Thanks David - I can see the carrier, which is stronger than ESPN 1520, but splatter from 1602 means it's impossible to hear it. And I am using LSB with <2 kHz bandwidth. ESPN 1520 is audible. I've also got snatches of Bloomberg Radio on 1130 with sufficient to identify it. On 1560 I'm getting harmo...

Re: First MW DX of the season -CRI 1521kHz

Thanks John I've set the auto recording to go on until 2110 UTC - the quality of my signal would have been a lot better if the interference was not present. This morning at 0720 Z it was turning on and off. Here is a comparison - with / without the QRN. It's showing about 9dB extra noise at the top ...
