Re: Es 17/6/19

It been a very sparse ES season so far. The scan log showed a few Italian and Tunisians first thing the morning. Then a fairly good opening to UKR and BLR on the OIRT band with a couple frequenices with R.Rossii. I found three brief snatches of Italian over a two hour period of recordings - well bel...

FMList ES/SpE path predictor

Is anyone else making use of the personalised ES path prediction program in FMList? I am finding it very useful. If you aren't aware of it the function uses the "last 30 minutes DCS" option in the Visual logbook and plots likely propagation path(s) based on other Es loggings for your location. For t...

Re: Es 15/6/2019

In North Kent the OIRT band has been open from around 0945 UTC. Signals are not strong, and they come and go. Once again I was on the edge of a SpE cloud with Dutch/Belgian DXers having a great time. Also has carrier level TV signals on 49.7396, 49.7500, and 59.249. At 1240 UTC it is opening up a li...

Re: No Es-Season in Germany in 2019!

Definitely the worst year here in the South-East of England since I began DXing in 2013 - June 1st and June 12th are the only days I've had significant reception. This year it seems I'm just on the edge of the SpE clouds to the South of me. In 2017 I was just on the edge of SpE clouds to theEast (!)...

Re: 88.9 - PI:33D2 PS:Ru----ic - 8/8/2018 Es

I've had this station on 22/08/2018. My best guess is that it a Spanish station for Russian tourists, as when I got it it was with a load of other Spanish stations. There is a "RusRadio" on 102.0 and 106.2 on FMList both listed as being located at Mijas and using PI code of E080 and E000 respectivel...

Re: Es 09/06/19

Most of the action is favouring continental Europe. I managed a few stations today, being at the edge of the openings. (South-East England) I have gone back over the FMList logs for the first week of June from 2015 through to 2019. 2019 is the worst season out of the five years for the number of log...

Re: E skip tips?

Hello CB, I will will add my 'penny-worth' to the discussion. RTL dongles are prone to overload so you have to be careful as to gain settings - they won't be as sensitive as you could get. Also don't go above 2.048 MHz sample rate to avoid spurious signals. But it is an excellent cheap device for le...

Re: Philatelists

Seems like the tail end has fallen out of prices. About 18 months ago we disposed of a collection of cigarette cards from my in-laws. Most dated from the 1930's to 1950's. We went to a valuation day and got £25 for the lot. We weren't expecting much as they weren't in the sort of condition collecto...

I built up a modest collection of (mainly) George VI unused commonwealth stamps. The oblong ones that show the scenes of everyday life in each country. It is fascinating how much detail simple line drawings can convey.

Re: What starts with SM and has a pi code of 0000

btw: I wonder why everyone is so keen on logging Libya? most boring stations. Because 1) it is there 2) they only started to use PI codes a couple of years ago - so very difficult to identify for sure, and 3) places like Benghazi are double hop distance from the UK. Thanks for you suggestions on po...

Re: What starts with SM and has a pi code of 0000

Hi Jim, That was the 2nd thing I did, after consulting the FMList database. Two Libyan stations listed - Tripoli (in the general direction of Misratah) and Sultan (nr Benghazi) no RDS given for either station, but on the FMList visual logbook Mike had logged two Libyan stations during the same openi...

What starts with SM and has a pi code of 0000

On 01 Jue 2019 at 1634 UTC on 93.1 MHz I got the following PI: 0000 PS: SM??__?? the audio was too weak to get an idea of the language, but RDSSpy gave a solid hit for the PI code and the first two characters of the pi code. A couple of more passes of the recording gave a bit more info for the PS. A...

Re: 87.5 PI Code:0000 - Libya?

I think is worth commenting that PI codes of 0000 and FFFF can be indicative that the RDS encoder has been left in default settings. I've sometimes seen Radio Text that gives the make/model of the encoder and software version. The radio station's engineer can't have read the manual properly before i...

Re: Es 1/6

The opening, which started here around 14:00 UTC is quite extensive over the lower part of the band but signals are distorted and RDS info is not coming up readily. I will resort to the recordings later.

In the South East of the UK there is also some enhanced tropo jut to confuse things.

Re: ES 03/05/2019. Is the beginning of the Sporadic-e?

For me it is following a 'familiar' pattern. An opening in late April to get one all excited, then a gap for a couple of weeks. Then a couple of teaser openings in mid-May and hopefully something will appear today or tomorrow (22nd). And the same pattern of extensive Es from the border of Kazakstan!...

All the information is there - not just pretty pictures. But I see you have been sent other program to help you.

Have a look at this information on K6STI's web-site. This should provide most of the information you need. http://ham-radio.com/k6sti/korn1512.htm Add: A comment on the first picture showing a 15.12 on top of a light duty rotator (looks like an AR130X). The pole to which the antenna is attached is f...
