Re: 2 minute meteor train includes Duma FM 268km 16-11-2020 Leonids

Here in South-East England the Leonids have been next to non-existent. On the 17th I had one meteor train over 3 minutes long with signals on every frequency from 87.5 to 96.2 MHz. None were strong enough to give RDS and the signals were choppy and more than two signals mixing together. On the 18th ...

Improving Wi-fi reception on my mid-tower PC

A note to computer manufacturers: How NOT to ensure good Wi-fi reception: Mount the dual antennae halfway down the back of the metal case right alongside all the USB etc cables! My previous PC (small desktop case) had the standard pair of short antennae mounted on the back right near the top so they...

SDRPlay RSP1A 'rip-off'

It's one thing 'cloning' the discontinued RSP1, but it something else entirely to pass off a rip-off the current RSP1A. I came across this when searching for 14 bit SDRs. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Haude-10KHz-2GHz-Wideband-Software-Accessory-Green-Silver/dp/B08DR5472B When you read the detailed produ...

Re: DAMN BLOODY WINDOWS 10! (Driver Installation)

One evening a few weeks ago, an unfortunate bout of clumsiness on my part resulted in me catapulting my laptop across the room at speed, whacking it with force on to a concrete floor. There's not a mark on it and it still works perfectly! Things sometimes go unexpectedly right! My son-in-law was in...

What to do while SDR Console is auto logging RDS

Well I've got a production line going with SDR Console running through my extensive recordings. It would take far to long to manually check all the files with a fine tooth comb. I had already manually processed quite a few files, but hadn't deleted them. So I've been able to check the combination of ...

Re: DAMN BLOODY WINDOWS 10! (Driver Installation)

It is long winded enough uploading everything you need to a new computer without having to contend with these sorts of issues. It is yet another instance of the "law of unintended consequences" kicking in Driver updates should be optional - and selectable though Settings>Windows Update>View Optional...

Re: Radio Maryja behind Radio Plus Lublin from a 2019 Es file

the access to frontends.xml was removed due to a couple of numpties asking about issues when using SDRplay with SDR# on the Airspy/SDR# IO group. Mostly because someone had written a hack that allowed SDRPlay devices to work with the later versions of Airspy, by disguising it as a UHP/USRP device. ...

I think you are in repeat mode Dave, I answered you on my "OIRT" thread. That is totally weird! But it explains why I thought my post hadn't appeared, I'd taken the precaution, based on past experience of copying before submitting. Somehow I ended up on your OIRT thread and re-posted. But it doesn'...

Re: FM Co Channel Canceller on OIRT FM signals received by Es in 2019

Very interesting and clever development. I managed to eliminate a strong Polish station on 94.7 to reveal France Blue Nord! OK it's only a local station - but it proves it works. More testing to see if when a strong signal is eliminated the RDS data from a weaker signal will come through. What I did...

Thanks for posting that Peter - I really must try it with my Airspy. Does it work on recordings?

I couldn't resolve any RDS - but what software do you use to extract a portion of the I/Q file
I can answer my own question - playback from SDR# File Play - whilst playing record the section you want with the 'native' recording option. It is recorded in the same folder as the SDR# program.

Re: MSI.SDR vs SDRPlay RSP1A

Hello Dave, I have the MSi.SDR and it isn't great on FM, a lot of buzzy sprogs etc. My Airspy HF+ Discovery blows the MSi.SDR out of the water. I've been busy with 10m FT8 lately, and there is no competition, the HF+ Discovery is in a different league. The only other SDR I'd consider is the RX888, ...

MSI.SDR vs SDRPlay RSP1A

My original RSP died recently. So I decided to try one of the MSI.SDR clones to see if it would be an adequate replacement for FM DXing. It cost me £38 inc delivery via eBay. The attached screenshot is a side-by side comparison of the two - running on SDR# build 1361. MSi.SDR vs SDRPlay RSP1A FM Ban...

Re: Building a Yagi for FM

Hi Matt, With your new aerial - is it a folded dipole, or is it still an open dipole? From how you describe the guide the balun is for a folded dipole, but the connections you describe don't sound right just connected the sheild and center to separate sides of the dipole and it seems to work fine! 29 May 2020 - midnight Es Log

I was reminded in another post about the 11pm - 2 am SpE opening towards the south - which I had totally forgotten about and hadn't logged on FMList. For those interested I've included a link so you can see just what was logged by my unattended set-up. The opening lasted just over three hours from 2...

Re: Well.. that was the (Es) season that was...

On May 29th the band was open until a little past 2 am local on the 30th. I had completely forgotten about that late night/early morning opening. It was captured by my background scanning set-up (RTL-dongle+FM Suite plug-in for SDR#). The last station captured was Ondacero on 90.9 at 02:01:52 BST, ...
