Re: a blast from the past

Not using SDRUno for it then? :D I have never 'taken' to SDRUno, it is too 'busy' , the inbuilt RDS decoder is nothing to write home about, not even having a log file facility. I've only recently become quite enthusiastic about SDR Console - with muliple VFOs simultaneously decoding RDS to a databas...

Re: a blast from the past

you can read about it here lol ,, down page a bit , David http://www.dxarchive.com/mw/transatlantic_logs_august_2013.html Yes - very interesting. A somewhat similar situation crops up with SDRPlay and SDRSharp. Up to and including SDRSharp build 1361 it was available free for use, after that steps ...

Re: Automating FM-DXing

There really is no substitute for being at the dials when the opening occurs. But at least capturing the DX when I can't be present is better than nothing. Maybe it's a comparison between a real cream caje and one with artifical cream :) So back to 'simple' automation. Run SDR Console with as many ...

Re: Automating FM-DXing

Wow! Who would have thought we'd be DXing like this. Whatever happened to single frequency DXing? :) It's DXing John - but not as we know it  I remember as a teenager staring at a TV for hours waiting for DX signals. Early morning would produce flashes of the "Russian" testcard from random met...

Re: Automating FM-DXing

Yes John,
It's more of an interesting excercise to see what the possibilities are. I'll probably be sticking with my current way of operating, which is to record to two of my hard drives using two SDRs whilst either live DXing on the 3rd SDR or playing back from the third hard drive.

Automating FM-DXing

I thought this should be a separate thread. JF wrote: I would like to be able to scan the band, split into as many sections as is necessary. That would be four sections on the FDM-S2. (I don't plan to buy the S3 in a hurry.) I would need something to log PI and PS, as is available, noting the freque...

Re: SDR Console - RDS decoding improvemnt

This is excellent news. Just a quick acknowledgement from me for now but I will look into this in the weeks ahead and try to get some sort of automated system running in time for the E season if that's possible. What are you looking for in an automated system? I have set up an "automated" system fo...

SDR Console - RDS decoding improvemnt

Two recent developments in SDR-console 1) Simon had posted that he was working on improving RSP sensitivity and had improved the digital signal processing, and 2) on Jan 19th he posted he had found a bug, that when fixed improved RDS sensitivity greatly. So today I ran my August 2016 archived file o...

Re: SDRPlay RSP1A 'rip-off'

Can SDRPlay do anything about this - at least get Amazon to de-list it? I wonder how it compares to the genuine RSP1A and whether it even has the same functionality. I came across this post dated Feb 2nd on the SDRPlay new forum So this morning I was greeted with the attached screen. I purchased th...

Love all those adapters David.
Like the peg - they are optional :D
But it means I can swap them about with the analogue tuners.

Re: Aerial Switch box details

I'll bring this post to life again just to remind everyone, as we've been discussing aerial cables feeding into the house: You can make a very simple aerial patchbox with a high degree of isolation as detailed in the original post. The peg is optional. What I didn't realise when quantifying the isol...

Through the soffit board (eaves), over the ceiling then down through a small hole in the plasterboard ceiling into the radio room. Errrr...I've got seven cables including the rotator - and a veritable spaghetti junction at the back of the radio desk. [ENE, E, ESE, S, vertical, mag loop ]. If drillin...

Re: OIRT in RUS - changes and switch-offs

Thanks for reprinting the list Ben, Checking the lists - with the exception of the Sankt Petersburg Oblast - all the rest are at double hop distances from my location. With the emptying of the OIRT band of many of the stations in signle-hop range it may make exotic reception easier. I did get a hand...

Re: OIRT in RUS - changes and switch-offs

Will there be anything left by the time the 2021 Es season starts?
However the 70 MHz amateur band has quite a number of low power beacons - and last year I managed to receive one from Hungary.

I found this when trying to find the functions of the XDR-GTK software. Re: RSP1A & TEF 6686 on same meteor burst

A very interesting receiver and software, but what do the settings DX1, DX2, DX3 and DX4 actually do? I mean - I can hear what they do - but is it audio bandwidth or IF bandwidth? If it came in a box I'd be very tempted to buy it. As it is I reckon I'm just past the time when I have the ability to u...

Quadrantids Jan 2021 - summary

Would you believe? - 587 loggings over the period of 2200 02 Jan to 2359 03 Jan. This was pretty much continous recording, switching between ENE and ESE as dictated by the position of the meteor trails. I had recorded on the 2nd and the 4th - put the meteor shower really started in earnest around 22...

Re: Or hopefully identified ! Greenland ?

We need an online database of recorded IDs.
Surely that option is available in FMList - the little greyed out loudspeaker icon. Presumably it is no longer greyed out when a file is uploaded.

Re: Blake FM8 Yagi feedpoint impedance & balun

Swapped the elements today. Less noticable effect on the lower part of the band (BBC Wrotham appears stronger but may be multipath in the loft) but as expected the front to back ratio at 101.6 was reduced by 5-6dB That is the problem with putting it in the loft I had similar problems, apart from th...
