Re: Possible tropo on Sunday and Monday

And F5LEN's forecast suggests Monday/Tuesday - let us hope reality matches or exceeds the forecast - 'cos it has all gone quiet here.

RDS on Algerian stations

Does anyone know if Algeria has stopped using RDS on some transmitters? During a strong opening to N Africa on 13th August I get stations on 88.7 and 91.8 and the characteristics of the signals on the SDR waterfall display strongly suggest they are from the same location. Afkadou is listed as having...

Re: 2019 Perseids - back scatter screenshot

It is very likely that the german station on 94,1 is WDR2 Munster/Baumberge
It could also be NDR 2 from Göttingen-Nikolausberg. At 5 kW it is similar in power to some of the other reception I've had via MS on 13/08/19. It is 632 km away.

2019 Perseids - back scatter screenshot

Back-scatter meteor reception. BBC R2 (89.7) and BBC R3 (91.7) on the same burst as Sweden and Denmark. The frequency combination shows it can only be Talconeston (Norfolk) or Redruth (Cornwall). Talconeston is uses 130kW hor omni-directional, Redruth uses 2.5 kW hor to the east, so it is 95% certai...

Re: OIRT/Band II Es

It has moved round to a significant opening to Spain / N Africa - scanning log shows TUN at 1528 UTC and a mix of Spain and Algeria to follow - still going on now at 1605 UTC

Re: Perseids 2019

Lots of pings and short bursts between midnight and 2:30 am local (UTC+1)- with the aerial pointing towards the Adriatic. The main characteristic of the meteor signals is that the signal strength is very choppy and more than one tx is present on the frequencies. The result being that when it looks s...

OIRT/Band II Es

Europe is enjoying a nice extended Es opening - some of which is reaching this corner of the UK. Methinks the Perseids have injected some nice excitable metallic ions into the ionosphere.

Re: Perseids 2019

The evening of the 11th gave a few bursts - with some short term Es thrown in for good measure around 1630 to 1650. So I'm hoping for even better in the next 48 hours. As far a visual observations are concerned - it is almost full moon - so that will spoil things - unless anyone is prepared to be up...

Re: Perseids 2019

Do not rule out the possibility of back-scatter meteor (or) Es reception. I had a nice example of this in October 2015 when I got Belgium on 89.5 and 91.7 Mhz from Sint-Pieters-Leeuw / Norkring Toren at 250 km, in with an Italian station at the same time. The SDR waterfall trace (attached) showed th...

Re: Why so little ESkip?

I think we are at the end of the 2019 Es season - with very little activity on Band 2 since 28th July - which gave me just 10 minutes of reception around 0700 UTC from the Vico Equense / Ercolano area of Italy. Although the 29th had a longish opening on the OIRT band. I'm hoping we'll get some more ...

Re: UK TV channel list (frequency, location, power ...) ??

Here is a source of information for every UK DTV transmitter. https://ukfree.tv/maps/alphabetical Unfortunately it is not a table of transmitters/freqencies - you have to access each transmitter's link (over 2000!) When you scroll to the bottom of the transmitter's page there is a table of frequenci...

China Radio International 1521 hHz 01 Aug 2019

CRI 1521 was coming in very strongly around 1955 - 2000 UTC - when Radio Riyadh faded. Since the last thunderstorms the high noise level at the top end of the MW band seems to have disappeared -let's hope it stays that way. I managed to find a few weak TA carriers in the early hours of the morning b...

Re: Es Band 2 28th July

Band II ES was disappointing for the 27th/28th.It may have been that the skip was missing my location - but it didn't help that after disconnecting the various antenna cables to prevent lightning damage, I connected to leads the wrong way round. So not much from the North-East, as I was actually usi...

Re: Es 29th July 2019

The OIRT opening ran from shortly before 0950 UTC to just after 1230 UTC - mostly weak and intermittent. A number of stations from Belarus characterised the fisrt part of the opening but then moved further to the South to bring in Ukraine - in particular UKR TV sound on 65.74936 from 1130 - 125 UTC ...

I was looking at an earlier screen of FMLIst which showed a separate entry for KAZ by Tim - must have been a typo - DaveB

Tim,
Your OIRT Kazakhstan reception is newsworthy surely. FM List visual logbook shows a near perfect set of single hop, double hop and multiple hop all on the same bearing.

Unfortunately I got no OIRT reception this morning.

Re: How hot is at your location

I am not sure that I have ever actually been in a really bad thunder storm. Interesting comments about Skegness's own micro-climate. We have had some pretty spectacular storms here from time to time. In th '80's we would get the emergency lamps out every time a storm came near. Power for the easter...
