Re: UNID with English discussion 93.1

Hi Nick,
Have you considered BBC R. Scotland from Meldrum? possibly by back-scatter from the Es cloud producing Malta/Sicily

Spain into Southern UK -

Suddenly it is wide open to Spain from 87.5 - top of band. Turning into an unresolvable soup.

Re: FM-DX Es 21/06/2020

Welcome to Skywaves Ben.

An interesting logbook from 21st, it takes a lot of effort to go through the recordings when there is such an extensive opening. I have so many files some will have to wait until the winter to be processed!

Re: 10 years ago today...

It's times like this that an SDR would have come in very handy! Without SDR radios and recordings my "exotic DX" count would be virtually nil. As I record files that or 4/5 mins long I have archived the special ones. So I've got ISR/LBN/JOR on one IRN/IRQ on another and of course AZE on the latest ...

Re: Ukraine 107.7?

It sounds Ukrainian, or to be more precise, like the other stations I got that were Ukrainian. Considering that under an hour later I got Azerbaijan on 94.6 - which was only 1 kW - 90 watts on single hop is quite likely. At around 06:50 I got R Maria (UKR) from L'viv on 66.26, which is a 200 watt st...

Re: Ukraine on Band II - RDS codes

From my (very) limited experience UKraine appears to be part way through adopting RDS as I've found txes with RDS where nothing is listed on FMList. There also seem to be a lot more Band II stations as I can remember nothing before 2019 and only a rare one in 2019 - now twice in one week a whole load.

Ukraine on Band II - RDS codes

Today (18/06/20) and on 16/6/2020 I have received a bunch of stations from the Ukraine. Most have RDS and I noticed that the pi code appears at a much lower signal strength than is usual. Generally I expect to get a pi code when the SNR ratio (displayed by SDR#) is above 16 dB. With some Ukrainian s...

Re: Double Es reception in UK 16 Jun 2020 - recordings

Surely this reception from AZE must be a UK first. No other loggings of Azerbajani radio stations in the UK have been posted on FMList since its inception, but what about before that. Hasn't TV from Azerbaijan been received in the UK in the last 40 years? Has anyone in the UK got Azerbaijan logged ...

Do you have recordings?
I can run some audio recordings from the I/Q files

I also got the following Russian stations at 07:00 UTC on the OIRT band
66.20, 67.46, 67.97, 68.36 - a couple were very strong. The distaces were between 2800 and 3065 km on a bearing of 87/90 deg.

Re: Azerbaijan received in UK

93.0 MHz was a busy frequency with RMF from Poland dominating in strength and Azer FM appearing when it faded. Just to add to the mix MDR Sachsen made an appearance in between. Reception lasted from around 06:43 to 06:52 UTC. Azer FM appears to be pumping a lot of power into the RDS sub-carrier as I...

Azerbaijan received in UK

A bit late for a "DX Alert" but on checking my scan logs I found that Araz FM had come through with full RDS at 07:46 BST. So if you have a recording at that time - check it carefully. 07:46 93.0 MHz C201 ARAZ FM I also received a partial at 07:10 on 92.3 C203 _RC_???? -possibly 92.4 or 92.5 based o...

Es kicked in strongly here at around 8 am local time. Shame I slept in, but at least I've captured the start of the opening on the scanned log. It went dead a few minutes ago, but has just started up again. Hopefully we will now get a sfew good days.

Re: Daytime Arietids & Daytime Zeta-Perseids meteor showers reminder

On the off-chance I turned the SDR on and got a strong meteor burst at 15:30 UTC just as I was going to start recording in case of Es. Es was a complete wipe-out but at 15:40 and 16:16 I got 30 bursts covering the whole of the 87.5 -94.4 MHZ spectrum. I'm part way through logging down the one at 161...

Re: Are we having fun yet?

Like Jorge, I've got a load of I/Q files recorded, and a stack of saved scan logs to process. Recorded wideband I/Q files, apart from giving more stations to log, enable one to obtain a much better idea of how an opening progresses. Is it the reception area confined to a small area, or is it widespr...

Re: Are we having fun yet?

Maybe things will improve by the end of the week. If Es is linked to solar activity that is one solar rotation since the good conditions in the 2nd half of May began.

Re: In which direction do you point your aerial during a meteor shower?

If like me, you can't work out the radiant of a meteor shower, there is a small app - Virgo - that will tell you 'everything' you need to know. The link below will point you in the right direction. http://www.dl1dbc.net/Meteorscatter/ I run the standalone version found here: https://bitbucket.org/No...
